Even The GOP Women Are Getting Tired Of The GOP’s Attitude Toward Women

As a liberal type in Alabama, I am used to not much of anybody publicly agreeing with much of anything I say. Needless to say, I was surprised to realize that I am not as alone as I thought, especially when it comes to the GOP’s war on women. And I don’t just mean support […]

Unintended Racism that’s “All in Good Fun” is Still Wrong

A haunted corn maze, with a scene of a lynching, all in good fun — what could go wrong with that? I grew up in the Deep South, in the hill country of central Alabama just south of Birmingham, during the Civil Rights Movement. Just about everything you saw happening in Birmingham during that time […]

Why We Should All Support Wendy Davis for Governor of Texas

When Texas state senator Wendy Davis announced her candidacy for governor of Texas, women across the country breathed a collective sigh of relief and broke out into cheers. Davis said she would “represent the working class and improve public education, economic development and health care to Texas.” While she also “promised a more populist and […]

Marijuana Arrests, Mass Killings, Psychotropic Drugs and Guns — It’s Time to Reevaluate the Conversations

If it seems like marijuana and the War on Drugs are always in the news, you’re right. Figures from the 2012 FBI Uniform Crime Report: Crime in the United States show that the number of arrests for marijuana alone far exceeds the arrests for violent crime in this country. While the nationwide total for violent […]

Rape Culture has Run Amok, but is Mocking It an Effective Tool to Stop It?

I was aware of the Miley Cyrus MTV Video Awards episode and I will even admit I was secretly rooting for her, but I didn’t pay it a whole lot of attention. Then I heard about a video parody some New Zealand students had made of the same song being pulled from YouTube. When you […]

DOJ Makes Hopefully Historic Change for the Better on Marijuana Enforcement

It was a hopefully historic (but perhaps we should remain pragmatic) breakthrough/small victory in the struggle to end marijuana prohibition. August 29, 2013, Attorney General Eric Holder informed the governors of Washington and Colorado that the Department of Justice will allow the states to implement their recently passed ballot initiatives, legalizing the production, distribution, and sale […]

Fact Check: Marijuana is 100 Times Less Toxic than Alcohol

Have you seen the marijuana ad that everybody was all excited and/or worked up about? It caused quite a stir. You know how everybody is always complaining about lack of truth in advertising? Well, guess who got it right? A little background: the “New Beer” ad was produced, bought, and paid for by the Marijuana […]

Breaking News: Kneeling is not required in United States schools

There are some things that we, as a people in these United States, just plain can’t let slide. For instance, we all know that we do not kneel in the presence of government officials and all that. Most of us know that. It goes so deep into the core of what we believe as Americans […]

Republicans Walking Out on the GOP – Should Anyone Be Surprised?

As discontent with the GOP builds, a whole group from Maine just announced they were leaving the Republican Party. Effective immediately, we the undersigned are unenrolling from the Maine Republican Party. Furthermore, those of us who hold official Party positions, be they at the Republican National, State, County or even Town Committees, hereby resign. (Bangor […]

93% say Dr. Gupta is right about marijuana. How about you?

Dr. Sanjay Gupta made major news when he came out with his “Weed” documentary and publicly took a stance, openly refuting what he and many others before him have said about marijuana. He acknowledged that he too had been fooled, that he too had believed the lies, and the endless barrage of marijuana propaganda. It […]
