Anyone who follows me on Twitter or Facebook is probably aware that I’m not the biggest fan of “fanatics.” By “fanatics” I mean the far-left and far-right absolutists who seem to live in some sort of world where compromise is a negative word and there’s only one answer to every question — their answer.
I’m not saying that all of these folks are bad people, but too often I’ve found this “all-or-nothing” approach to be extremely counterproductive to building an effective and functioning government for all Americans.
A good example of what I mean came Tuesday when news broke that Megyn Kelly would be leaving Fox News to join NBC.
Well, here are a few of the conservative reactions to this news that I saw on her Facebook page:
Off to the government sponsored a-la-carte propaganda provider. NBC News has absolutely ZERO credibility. ZERO. Ask Brian Williams.
Hopefully they put Greta in you’re spot, I never watch NBC they are so biased surely you know that, good luck swimming with the sharks!
Well, you will be accepted better there than at Fox. I can say that over the last year, I have stopped DVR-ing your shows when your true political biases came to light.
I am glad you are leaving . I have not watched you since the first debate . You showed your true colors and have not stopped since . You should be at NBC and you should be reporting with the Liberals.
NBC is where you belong. After the election and disrespect you showed the President Elect, I couldnt wait for Fox to get rid of you. No one will miss you Megyn. So sad how you portrayed yourself versus how you truly are.
Well, since you did everything during the election short of wearing your “I’m With Her” t shirt to work, I’d say NBC is a good place for you. Maybe you can co-host on the view after you’ve proven yourself over there.
The liberal finally came out of the closet!
You embarrassed yourself and ruined your image when you constantly bashed Trump.
Good Riddance…you always were a liberal whiner.
I used to watch you, but when you started injecting your own political views / agenda into everything, I quit watching … you’ll fit in better at NBC.
I am very glad she is leaving. She doesn’t belong on Fox. She was so in favor of Hillary without actually confessing to it, it just sucked to watch her show.
Not going to watch her. She has no credibility or can be trusted. She was part of the Obama hate and lies machine that paid her millions of dollars to create the monster who is going to be our president.
Don’t care that she switched networks she’s still racist.
She seems mostly interested in Meghan Kelly. She was getting paid tons to be hateful and racist and she had no problem with it. I won’t watch her. She has no integrity and NBC is stooping to a new low.
I thought Megyn had changed because she left Fox. I was wrong. She now is kissing the butt of the man who made a fool of her. Kudos to Rosy for sticking to her principals .
Let’s call this what it is… Megyn Kelly is going to lead the charge in normalizing DT for the masses on one of our major networks.
They throw Billy Bush under the bus (an entertainment reporter) and hire an unethical, deplorable, bleached blonde Faux newsperson. NBC, I’m outraged.
Well just shows that she’s a corporate whore that only cares about the paycheck. Journalist? What’s that? She’ll go, do or say anything you want if the pay is good.
All credibility of NBC is down the drain with hiring her. One less news station I will not listen to. Another way to normalize Trump and his minion by someone who was part of the Fox hate TV voice/ outright lies so prevelant on that network.
NBC had little credibility after their actions, or should I say inaction during the election, and now they’re going to hire a professional lier from fox joke news as their face. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!
The Queen of evil, toxic Republican propaganda on NBC?!? OMG … this is the official end of good faith mainstream news. Apparently they’re not even going to try anymore … $$ means everything – the truth means nothing.
Amazing, isn’t it? Keep in mind that most of these were some of the top “liked” comments on the particular Facebook posts from which I pulled them.
But this is how many on the far-left and right often behave. Those on the far-left see Megyn Kelly as nothing but a right-wing racist who hates Obama and helped elect Donald Trump. Meanwhile, many on the far-right view her as a liberal, with some even accusing her of being “pro-Clinton” — which is outright insanity.
Though both sides seem to agree on one thing: NBC is terrible.
If you’re one of these folks on the far-left, NBC is awful for hiring her because, in your mind, it’s a continued “shift to the right.” However, to those on the far-right, NBC is nothing but “fake news” and “liberal propaganda” where the “liberal” Kelly will fit right in.
But the truth is — both sides can’t be right.
When you’re dealing with fanatics, they’re often very irrational. It’s impossible for Kelly to be both pro-Trump and pro-Clinton, while also being both a racist conservative and a “liberal” pretending to be a conservative.
Meaning that the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Am I a fan of Kelly? No, not really. More often than not I’ve disagreed with the things she’s said, or some of the positions she’s taken, but I have agreed with her on a few occasions and given her credit when she deserved it, too.
I’m also not going to discount the fact that for the last 12 years she’s been an contractually obligated employee of a network that, let’s face it, is really nothing more than conservative propaganda.
So, my take on this is that I’m willing to give her a chance. Maybe being on a network that’s not just the media arm of the GOP will put her in a position where I’ll agree with her more than I did before — maybe not. Right now, nobody really knows.
But the reaction from the far-left and the far-right to this news has served as a prime example that, while their ideologies might be completely different from one another, the irrational behavior found among the more “fanatical” aspects of both sides of the political spectrum are much more similar than either side will ever admit.
