The 5 Worst Conservative Memes Of The Week

nz76n5This is the fourth installment in our weekly fact-check series “The 5 Worst Conservative Memes Of The Week.” For previous articles see here and here.

For those of you who are seeing this for the first time, the idea behind the countdown is to spotlight the dumbest, most absurd, or downright horrible conservative memes that are floating around on social media. We also discuss the Facebook page or other social media accounts associated with them, as many of these images are used to advertise a website, petition, or political cause.

Again, if you are new here, this is the brief synopsis: Have you ever received those email forwards that tell you how people are putting HIV-loaded syringes on gas pump handles or that if you forward within 10 minutes, you will meet the person of your dreams? Yeah, it is that kind of rubbish designed to prey on the gullible or pull on your heartstrings – and in this case, it’s in the form of conservative memes.

And now, on to the dumbest conservative memes of the week:

5. Number five this week comes to us from the page “The Revolution,” which has made an appearance before here on the countdown. The page is a front for the far-right website Universal Free Press and posts links to it on a regular basis. This image was posted with the caption, “Since progressive liberals can’t quite seem to read the newspaper, here’s a little picture that explains things in a rather simple way for them to comprehend.”

For the people who don’t know the difference between Iraq and Iran, let alone Shiite and Sunni, this image makes sense. Brown people in robes happy = George Bush good. Brown people in robes shooting other brown people in robes = Barack Obama bad. The problem with this asinine image is that it is aimed at the people who can’t find Iraq on a map, but think the best foreign policy is just to drop nuclear bombs on the region and kill everyone.

Prior to our cowboy president’s invasion of the wrong country in 2003, minority Sunnis held power in Iraq under Saddam Hussein. After the removal of Saddam Hussein, a Shiite majority government was installed and Sunnis felt shut out. ISIS is a coalition of Islamic extremists and Sunni insurgents who are upset with the fact they no longer hold power as they did back in the days before Saddam was removed. If former prime minister Nouri al-Maliki had allowed Sunnis more of a voice in their government and had created more trust with other governments in the region like Saudi Arabia, we might not have seen this outburst of violence.

4. Number four comes to us from the page “Conservative Lady” that represents the website, which is right up your alley if you like fake blondes, fake boobs and fake news with shallow, jingoistic talking points.

Remember Benghazi image from the page "Conservative Lady" on Facebook.

This one is dumb since nothing was found in all the time wasted on the Benghazi investigations. There really is nothing else to say other than no images were posted by that page on 9/11 to remember the nearly 3,000 people who died on 9/11/2001, probably because that happened on Bush’s watch. Typical.

3. Our third submission is from the page “Conservative Tribune” which represents the website of the same name. With over 1.16 million followers, this page has a pretty decent reach and probably makes a tidy sum each week posting their scaremongering links. The image below was posted with a brief blurb about how much they missed Laura Bush.

Sure, Laura Bush was a classy first lady. I don’t have anything against her personally and think she is probably a pretty decent human being, but that’s not what the person who uploaded it had in mind. Gee, I wonder what the most noticeable difference is between Laura Bush and Michelle Obama? Height? Blue dress? Just kidding, it’s the color of her skin, and I don’t think the Conservative Tribune meant anything else.

The comments that followed included a ton of rants and insults towards Michelle Obama that I can’t post here, but if you want to subject yourself to the mind-numbing outburst of right-wing transphobic and racial remarks, click here.

2. Number two popped up in my feed recently and it turns out, conservatives (especially the folks at Human Events) are STILL upset about Paula Deen being 86’d from her job. It’s been what, over a year now?

Image from the page "Human Events" on Facebook.

This one is especially stupid since the original creator of this image obviously didn’t know or didn’t care that there’s a difference between private sector employment and public sector employment. Of course the audience this was aimed at also doesn’t understand that free speech isn’t unlimited and doesn’t protect your job making butter-filled recipes on TV in the private sector either. This is like comparing butter to oranges; it just doesn’t make any sense.

1. At the top of our countdown, we have this image from the page “Barack Obama’s Dead Fly,” which is about as hateful and stupid as it sounds. Full of thinly veiled racism and dumb memes lifted from around conservative media like this one, this page could probably provide us a meme for every weekly edition of our countdown.

Yes, they actually considered Bush to have accomplished the mission in Iraq, but somehow President Obama failed. Let’s try to understand the logic here: if the mission was already accomplished, then how could President Obama fail a mission that was already completed? Unless perhaps they mean that Bush set out to destabilize an entire region and President Obama hasn’t managed to close the Pandora’s Box that his predecessor flipped open, doused in gasoline and set ablaze. Yeah, that has to be it.

Then again, these are folks that loudly claim the bad things that happened on Bush’s watch, like 9/11, are actually Clinton’s fault. However, anything bad that happens under Obama, including the economy and wars he inherited, aren’t Bush’s fault. The mental gymnastics that people who actually believe this stuff have to do must be mind-boggling.

And that’s it for this week. Join us next time for 5 more of the dumbest, most ridiculous conservative memes that we’ve found floating around social media. As always, remember that just because they put something on the internet, that doesn’t mean it’s true, or intelligent. Just ask all those Republican voters who live from paycheck to paycheck hoping for a little bit of those trickle-down economics they’ve been waiting for the last few decades.

Would you like to nominate a meme for me to debunk or feature in an upcoming list? Visit my Facebook page and leave me a message with a link to one you want to see addressed, you may just see it here. Thanks to all of the tips from our fans that help make writing this weekly column easier, and a lot of fun.

My god, none of these make ANY SENSE. Surely if they had 2 brain cells they could think of a meme that actually makes sense, I mean Obama isn’t perfect and they COULD find something to legitimately complain about. Instead they go batshit looney tunes.

    • Stephen Barlow

YOu have to put on your Tin Foil hat and PLOT like a 3rd grader in a “No Girlz Alowed” tree fort.

These guys are paramilitary hillbillies who married their cousins and cheat with their sisters. WHAT DO you really expect?

It’s all about the nappy hair with them kinda folk.

  • Sandy Greer

Shouldn’t the first one – be the worst one?

Fox News be like: Obama goes to Stonehenge to offer Sacrifices of White Babies to Pagan Gods!

^^^That is so offensive (on so many levels) the others pale in comparison. Why isn’t that one the worst one?

    • D Johnson

      Parody perhaps?

      • Sandy Greer

I thought parody was supposed to be funny. So I’d say no.

    • Stephen Barlow

It’s the build up, like announcing the 1st runner up (who is ignored) to reveal Miss America.

      • Sandy Greer

Not a ‘runner up’ to me. It shouldn’t take Satanic robes, fetuses and machetes to find offensive the idea our president would sacrifice anybody to pagan gods.

But it does appear I’m the only one offended by it. So maybe I’m just too sensitive.

      • Stephen Barlow

That is true. and I DO find it offensive. But it’s funny because the GOP mantra is that obama is a kenyan muslim. SO it’s actually PROOF that the GOP has lied about him all along!!!!

      • Sandy Greer

When did Fox News say it, anyway? Who said it – on what show? Author should tell us where it came from, like he did the others. Fox News is not some internet blogger, with followers in the hundreds of thousands. They reach millions – every day. It should be all over the news, they did that.

Right now it’s just another meme; proof of nothing beyond a willingness to offend. Manny should spill the beans. FP could lead the charge on exposing this.

Don’t put it up there as a teaser. Tell us who, what, when. That’s what I want to know.

      • Stephen Barlow

Ya know there pal, I have ZERO RESPECT for people who type out of the peehole. Just ask Jim Beam.

“When did Fox News say it, anyway? Who said it – on what show?”

WHAT THE F*CK are wasting My time about????

Fox news does ZERO reporting. the research NOTHING. It is the BUSINESS MODEL to let Every Other network invest in “live from the war zone” investigations and take the life or death RISKS of GATHERING information.

FOW ALWAYS waits until someone ELSE breaks a story and then they paraphrase it and present it an if they actually do morethan carefully SCRIPT a platform for Obama bashing or what ever the Ailes Agenda du jour is.

So I am asking you “Don’t put it up there as a teaser. Tell us who, what, when. That’s what I want to know.”

That photoshopped POSTER was not a Manny Schewitz creation. READ the damn article you FOOL!!!

      • Sandy Greer

Whoa. Calm down. You’re flipping out.

Sure it’s photoshopped. But I assume somebody on Fox said it. Just like folks on the web-sites said what they did. Assumed, as you say – It’s not a Manny Schewitz creation.

^^^Why am I the only FRIGGIN IDIOT who thinks it’s Hate Speech. And wants to know exactly who said it – when – and on what show.

If you don’t waste your time on me – I think I can live with

      • Stephen Barlow

IF YOU ACTUALLY READ the caption AND the text, it TELLS you who created it.

      • Sandy Greer

It says Pool Photo/CBS/Peter Maer. It doesn’t say who at Fox News made such a vile Hate Speech against President Obama. But somebody else suggested it was Liberals made it up – to make Fox look bad.

The way you flipped out – Maybe you thought so, too.

Pardon me if I had a little Cognitive Dissonance – and
thought we were better than that.

There’s enough bad stuff out there – We don’t need to make it up.

      • Sandy Greer

Not a ‘runner up’ to me. It shouldn’t take Satanic robes, fetuses, and machetes to find offensive the idea our president would sacrifice anybody to pagan gods.

But it does seem I’m the only one to have an ‘issue’ with it. So maybe I’m just too sensitive.

      • Stephen Barlow

That’s OK. If the little Dutch Boy didn’t hear the dyke rumbling, He wouldn’t have put his finger in it. he saved all those people.

Ever wonder wonder what happened to the little Dutch Boy after he stuck his finger in the dyke?

The damn bitch broke his arm!

    • Stephen Barlow

BEcause he’s wearing golf clothes and isn’t in Satanic Robes and carry in a fetus and a machete`.

    • Curtis Scarbrough

I think that one is made by liberals making fun of the shit fox news says. It’s not actually saying Obama is sacrificing babies. It’s saying that Fox news would say that Obama is sacrificing babies.

      • Sandy Greer

Hm. I hadn’t thought about that. I hate to think we’d do that. It’s as bad as the other side – a new low of Hate Speech. Like you said earlier – There’s plenty of bad stuff out there. We don’t need to make it up.

  • Cathy

You know Middle Easterners (Libya-Pakistan) are Caucasian, right? Most of them even have *gasp* white skin. Can we call Armenians, Uzbeks, Italians, and Greeks brown also? I’m with you on everything except the obsession with color.

    • Stephen Barlow

That’s not quite right. I am 100% Ukrainian decent and the Caucasus is the southern part of the Ukraine over to Georgia and Chechnya and north up into the New Russia. Actual Caucasians are WHITE like Scandinavians because of the short summers and the cold winters.

But YEAH!! You make an excellent point.

  • Ned

You make good points of course, but the foxhounds will never get it. First of all, they are too closed minded; and second, most of them can’t read those big words.

  • DatDude

The grammar or lack thereof on the Benghazi meme, just shows the ignorance.

    • Stephen Barlow

In all truth, we should NEVER forget them. They died both horrifically and heroically. But to dishonor the 3200+ from 9/11 (I am counting those who have died of illness and injury from the rescue and recovery operations) is as UNpatriotic and disgusting as sneezing in the salad bar @ a church picnic.

      • Pennsylvanianne

The worst part is: Bush was WARNED about 9/11 and chose to ignore it. There have been unpredictable attacks on U.S. embassies for many years, yet the right chooses to focus on Benghazi. Why? Because the right believes focusing on an embassy attacked while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State undermines her credibility as a presidential candidate. Not that it does. They THINK it does.

      • Stephen Barlow

God awful how such an ignorant buffoon could be appointed president and then be allowed to cheat his way into a second term by manipulating the voting machines.

We need to END the electorial college and have a straight popular vote, not by state, but winner take all by NATIONAL Majority. Either we are the UNITED States or the 50 Separate States.

      • Pennsylvanianne

I completely agree. The Electoral College was designed for a far different horse-and-buggy era when representatives of each state gathered to cast the votes for president. That is no longer the case with instantaneous vote gathering. (Of course, the Second Amendment was designed for a muzzle-loading era, but get the gun lovers to admit to that one …)

      • Stephen Barlow

The reason was that in 1800, more than half the country ( ya gotta include the millions of slaves who were BANNED from learning to read and write) so it was thought that only the aristocracy could make those decision FOR the rest ofthe people. Kinda like Citizens united, but then it have nothing to do with money and EVERYTHING to do with Privilege.

      • Pennsylvanianne

Actually, the Electoral College provision was adopted by the Constitutional Convention in 1787. And it had more to do with how the slaves were counted (3/5 of a person) toward how many representatives from a state would be permitted at the Electoral College, rather than making decisions for others. But it does relate indirectly to your concept. FWIW, James Madison wanted a popular vote. Oh, if only they had listened to him!

      • Stephen Barlow

We can’t get them to READ the FIRST half of the 2nd Amendment, the part about WELL REGULATED… as a PRECEDENT for bearing and keeping arms.

      • Curtis Scarbrough

Or at the very least, make electoral votes proportionate to popular votes. You get 33% of the votes in a state? You get 33% of the electoral votes. Also, reduce every state’s electoral votes by 2.

      • Stephen Barlow

I think he LET is happen. You DO know that Bin Laden and the Bush family go way back. they have been friends and business partners for generations. Which why I think Bush paid Pakistan $6 BILLION a year to keep his buddy SAFE on a Paki Army Base.

      • Pennsylvanianne

Now some are calling for unsealing ALL documents related to the 9/11 investigation. I think we will find some very interesting developments regarding the role of the Saudis in these attacks.

      • Judy Mosty

Clinton was warned….but did he do anything to stop it?

      • Pennsylvanianne

No, Bush was warned. Richard Clarke writes all about it in his book. Let’s not try to rewrite recent history and divert blame where blame is deserved.

  • PRIME79

The 9/11 one is disgusting. Forget the 3000 that died on Bush’s watch on 9/11, always remember the 4 that died under Obama? What the actual fuck? Smh. The right is insane.

    • LMB

I could be wrong, but didn’t the Republicans vote against expanding embassy security that Obama asked for, which could’ve prevented Benghazi in the first place??

      • PRIME79

        You are correct.

    • Gladys1963

The right seems to forget how many embassy attacks happened under Bush and how many died.

  • Stephen Barlow

Ghee, this week, I just don’t know WHERE to start!

I’ll go with Laura Bush being a classy Lady as the LEAST offensive. Because she is.

To keep that false a front for her coke addicted, drunken frat boy, serial failure of a hubby. To endure knowing that she was only in the White House because her brother in law cheated 100,000 voters to get 5 RED “justices” to APPOINT her mate as President. To suffer knowing her war criminal life partner was ONLY re-elected because he had Diebold corrupt the memory function on it’s voting machines in Ohio. To live with the truth that 7,000 Americans are DEAD, 30,000+ wounded and all her lover could do about the decrepit conditions in the Va hospitals like Walter Reed is to SHUT THEM DOWN.

She must feel lower than a South American tin horn dictator’s whore from midnight to midnight. But she put’s on the brave face, lives the lie and keep’s all those horror’s in her silent heart like a Mafia Crime Boss’ wife. YES! Laura Bush is classy, but she is NO LADY.

The happy women one using SADDAM Hussein’s mass murder’s to insult the President… THAT HAS to be the MOST vile of this weeks Puke Report.

    • mrpink99 .

What I find most offensive about the meme depicting Laura Bush as a classy first lady “who loves America” is that it implies that Michelle Obama is somehow not classy and hates America.

      • Stephen Barlow

I do too, but that photo shop ‘moment’ is too petty and cheap a shot to get under My skin. Remember in 3rd Grade, how you snubbed the girl you like the most the worst? To ME, this is THAT childish.

What attracts More to Michelle than Laura is that Laura is ARM CANDY compared to a Real Life Mom. I know Laura has a degree in needle point or place settings from Vassar or Smith or someplace, but MICHELLE is as good a lawyer as Barrack!

    • Pennsylvanianne

Michelle Obama was never responsible for the death of another person. You can’t say that about Laura Bush, who was.

      • Stephen Barlow

who did she kill? Or do you mean because she kept the lie about WMD’s a secret, the murders of 4400 American servicemen?

      • Curtis Scarbrough

When she was a teenager or young adult (I forget her age) she was in a car accident, where one person was killed. If I’m not mistaken the accident wasn’t her fault. There’s plenty of real bad shit they’ve done, we don’t need to start accusing them of things they’re actually not guilty of.

      • Larry Brautigam

Wrong. She was the driver, ran a stop sign. But was no billed.

Still, makes her unique among FLOTI, only one to have committed vehicular homicide.

      • Larry Brautigam

      • Stephen Barlow

  • Julie Sipes

  • Noel Kerns

As I always say, if Obama’s so bad, why do they have to keep inventing lies about him?

  • Jeff Anspach

1 and 4 are the worst of these…..bengazi was tragic, but to compare 4 dead americans halfway across the globe with 3000 americans slaughtered on their own soil? When bush had warning after warning about it too?? In the words of John Mcenroe, you cannot fuckin be serious.

  • Michael Thompson

I think we can all just agree that the two parties have become one party. They all do shady stuff. They are all bought and paid for. They only survive by pitting us against one another so that we don’t stop and realize that they are the true enemy.
