On Monday it was revealed that the third client Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen was fighting to keep private is none other than Fox News’ Sean Hannity — one of this “president’s” biggest cheerleaders.
Legally there was no requirement for either Cohen or Hannity to disclose this information prior to Monday’s revelation. If Hannity wants Cohen to be his lawyer, then he has every right to choose him to fill that role.
However, for someone who’s essentially the “face” of a major cable news network (as sad as that is considering who we’re talking about here) to have hidden the fact that his lawyer is also the same lawyer for this “president” and someone who’s currently being investigated by the FBI is a really big deal.
If Fox News has any desire to salvage any shred of journalistic credibility it has left (which isn’t very much) then they really have no choice but to fire Hannity.
I’m not expecting that to happen.
Think about all the lies, conspiracies, and other propaganda Hannity’s been pushing as “credible news,” especially following the FBI’s raid of Cohen’s office recently, all the while refusing to disclose the fact that he’s been using Trump’s lawyer for legal advice.
It’s not exactly a secret that Hannity’s nothing but a propagandist exploiting the ignorance of millions to make himself a very rich man. So it’s not “shocking news” to learn that he’s been hiding a very important piece of information so that his defense of Cohen, and slandering of the FBI, would appear to be nothing more than his own personal opinion concerning possible crimes committed by someone from whom he’s been getting legal advice.
While I don’t expect Hannity’s followers to care, as far as Fox News is concerned, if they ignore this and continue to allow Hannity to remain an employee of the network, all that does is further prove that they have almost no credibility outside of serving as Trump’s own version of state-run media 99 percent of the time.
Going further, the fact that Hannity chose Trump’s lawyer as some kind of legal counselor shows how much of a pro-Trump cheerleader he is. For him it’s not about finding out the truth, or reporting the facts, it’s just about sucking up to this “president” because he knows that’s “what’s best for business.”
Most rational people already knew Hannity was nothing more than a Trump stooge willing to say and do anything to kiss his ass, but this just provides another indisputable piece of evidence to support what most of us have known all along.
Though I don’t expect Fox News to fire Sean Hannity, in my opinion, that’s the only move they can make if anyone at the network cares about maintaining at least the illusion that they’re a cable news network that cares about journalistic integrity.
