Conspiracy nuts like the people who believe anything Alex Jones says are probably my favorite folks to troll. All it takes is for me to write something that mentions vaccines, guns, genetic engineering of plants, the weather, Jews, banks or even toothpaste, and they’ll come out in droves to scream “wake up sheeple” like a tree full of squawking crows. In the world of the conspiracy nut, everything – and I do mean everything – is part of some bigger plot for destruction by a shadow agency which is coming any day now.
Some people, like Anthony Cumia (former co-host of Opie and Anthony), talk about distractions and “the dumbing down of America.” That’s a valid point, but it’s not some huge plot by the banks, Jews and whatever other group conspiracy nuts want to believe in. That’s simply America’s insatiable lust for tabloid-styled “journalism” and reality shows clogged with washed-up celebrities desperately trying to hold on to their 15 minutes of fame which should have expired years ago. If we paid more attention to politics or social issues instead of the latest thing the Kardashians are doing, or the latest SHOCKING video on World Star Hip Hop, the media would shift to covering those things, or risk going out of business for a lack of web traffic and subscriptions. It’s not some secret plot by President Obama to cause a civil war and take people’s guns while everyone is talking about Caitlyn Jenner, it’s the very simple economic concept of supply and demand – and Alex Jones knows that. After all, his entire business model is built on telling fearful and paranoid people what they want to hear and keeping them coming back for more.
During a rant yesterday about how President Obama “could cause a civil war” by supposedly trying to “restrict the Second Amendment,” “InfoWars” host Alex Jones abruptly switched topics by talking about Caitlyn Jenner’s interview with Vanity Fair. But apparently, the two aren’t so disconnected, as Jones explained that Jenner’s announcement is actually a plot to distract Americans from Obama’s evil schemes.
“I don’t like being force-fed constantly this weird, one agenda,” Jones said. “The obsession, it’s got to be from like five, six years, because I cover media, with trannies and transvestites. Just constantly force-feeding it, shoving it down my throat, pun intended, as if it is the only thing in the universe, the only thing in the world. What’s behind the agenda?”
Jones said the sinister agenda is to make “the coolest thing to be is a tranny or a transvestite” and glorify a “creepy old guy.” (Source)
The only agenda at work here is the media feeding a demand for celebrity gossip about Caitlyn Jenner, and Alex Jones selling fear to the tens of thousands of people who tune in to his InfoWars show. There are many others like Alex Jones or Glenn Beck out there, often less abrasive and much more subtle, but they all promote the single goal of getting you addicted to “information” someone allegedly doesn’t want you to know about, and making a tidy living doing so. It’s the modern-day version of the snake oil salesman, and like the old saying goes, there’s a sucker born every minute.
In case you’re wondering, while I’m supportive of transgender rights, I really don’t care about anything to do with Caitlyn Jenner. Not because she’s transgender, but because she’s simply another vacuous reality show celebrity who gets to extend their pop culture relevancy a little longer with this moment in the spotlight. I don’t think Caitlyn Jenner is a hero, but the thousands of other people who have made the transition without the fame and fortune are.
