Anti-Trump Conservative Goes on Epic Twitter Rant, Rips Republican Party’s Hypocrisies on Trump

Long before Donald Trump was “elected president” many folks like myself called out the Republican Party for making excuses for his comments and behavior that they would never let Democrats like Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton get away with.

After all, these were some of the very same people who tried to make Obama wearing a tan suit into a national scandal — who were apparently just fine with Trump praising Russia when we knew that they had launched a cyber attack against us, belittling POWs because he “likes people who weren’t captured,” getting caught on video bragging about sexually assaulting women, or mocking a disabled reporter.

And much… much more.

Well, despite the fact that the vast majority of conservatives have sold their souls to support and defend Trump, there are still a few who haven’t.

For example, Naval War College professor Tom Nichols who unleashed one hell of a Twitter rant against Republicans for cowardly (and hypocritically) making excuses for Trump. In particular, he painted a picture of an alternative universe where Hillary Clinton had won the 2016 election, then proceeded to be engulfed in many of the same scandals Trump has concerning his campaign’s possible collusion with Russia and his potentially trying to obstruct justice:

He couldn’t be more right.

If Clinton had done even a fraction of what Trump has said or done, they’d already be gearing up for impeachment hearings. Don’t forget that these are people who’ve tried paint an A-rated charity that spends 88 percent of all the money it raises on charitable causes as some sort of “pay-for-play Clinton criminal enterprise.”

I think that’s the aspect to all of this that infuriates me the most. That Republicans are acting as if they’d be okay if a Democrat was accused of the things Trump and his associates have been accused of doing. They spent years investigating, then re-investigating, Benghazi, desperately trying to get anything they could use against Clinton.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Trump, and the fact that four people associated with him have now been formally charged, with several people linked to his campaign caught lying about their contact with Russians — including his oldest son — Republicans act like this is just “a whole lot of nothing” and some “Democrat-led witch hunt” — even though they control Congress, the Department of Justice, Trump just appointed the new head of the FBI, and Robert Mueller is a Republican who was appointed by Trump’s deputy attorney general.

I’d like to commend Mr. Nichols for being one of the few conservatives out there who has refused to sell his soul to back and support one of the biggest mistakes in American political history.
