Nowadays it’s not really “breaking news” to hear about Republican presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz lying about something. In fact, lying is what Cruz seems to do best. More so than perhaps anyone not named Donald Trump, Cruz has built his entire political platform on lies, misinformation and propaganda. I remember prior to the CNBC debate a few months back, one of the Republican panelists they had on joked that he would like to see Cruz take a stance on something that isn’t tied directly in with the right-wing/tea party camp of conservatism.
In other words, they recognized that he’s nothing but a pandering, lying tea party hack who they would like to see prove that he can take a stand on something other than whatever he thinks tea party conservatives want to hear.
Well, with his campaign already in a lot of trouble after a rather disastrous week, Cruz was forced to admit that one of his most recent newsworthy lies, that he lost health care due to “Obamacare,” was, in fact, not-at-all true.
According to Talking Points Memo:
In statements to Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal, campaign spokeswoman Catherine Frazier blamed Cruz’s false assertion that his family had lost their health insurance on a misunderstanding. She said an insurance broker told Cruz that BlueCross BlueShield of Texas was dropping his PPO plan, but Frazier said that the broker did not tell Cruz his family was automatically being transferred to the carrier’s HMO plan.
“Based on this information, Sen. Cruz believed the family was uninsured and asked the broker to pull quotes immediately for a new policy,” Frazier said.
Except, that’s not what Cruz said. When he told this lie, not only did he say he lost health insurance due to “Obamacare,” he said that Blue Cross Blue Shield has completely pulled out of Texas. Only now a spokesman for his campaign says that this was a “misunderstanding” – which is complete b.s. When Cruz told this lie, he knew exactly what he was doing and he knew what he was saying wasn’t true.
There’s no way that you can convince me that nearly a month after his family supposedly “lost” health insurance, he wasn’t aware that he was still being covered under the HMO plan. You’re telling me that not one time did his family call Blue Cross Blue Shield – or anyone for that matter – to find out what was going on?
This is a situation where Cruz lied, was too ignorant to know that people could find out he was lying, and now his campaign is trying to spin things to cover up the lie. That or he’s trying to tell the American people he’s so incompetent that he wasn’t sure how to read a health care notice mailed to him by Blue Cross Blue Shield – or he was too lazy to find out what was going on to ensure that his family still had health insurance.
Either way, Ted Cruz is trying to cover up one lie with another – or he was incompetent and/or lazy – neither being qualities that are befitting someone who wants to be our next president.
