California Man and His Family Receive Death Threats After Taking in Immigrant Family (Video)

10592320_10152586605727489_1716374781_nNo matter how you feel about the immigration crisis we’re currently facing with thousands of immigrants from Central and South America flooding our border, the vile way in which many have behaved toward these human beings has been appalling.

Take for instance a local California businessman who received death threats after he took in an immigrant family.

After learning of a family through Border Angels, Mark Lane decided to take the family in.  This family apparently fled from Guatemala after the mother’s sons were threatened with death if they did not join a gang.  During their trip to the United States, the family says that their 23-year-old daughter was raped multiple times and they had all their possessions stolen from them.

“When they came to our house, they were scared. We had two extra rooms, but they didn’t want to be separated so they all piled into one room,” said Lane.

As news spread about Lane taking in this family, a Facebook page sprung up threatening him and encouraging people to boycott his business.  One post on the page said, “Mark Lane needs a serious beating in front of his customers. But then he serves crap food. His establishment is rat infested and smells like raw sewage!”

After filing a cease and desist order, the page was taken down.

But that was only the beginning, because the threats didn’t stop after the page was taken down.

“Now, we’re getting death threats,” said Lane. “They’re going to kill me. They’re going to kill my family.  They think it’s OK for them to now threaten my life. They put my kids and my wife’s picture on their hate sites, not even the mafia does that.”

Though none of this has discouraged him.

“I’m not going to stop helping families,” he said. “When this family leaves, the next family that comes through immigration – our house is open.”

And it seems all this hate has backfired as Lane claims his business is booming due to all the publicity.

And for the record, his business is Poppa’s Fresh Fish Company: 3227 Ocean View Blvd, San Diego, CA 92113.

Again, this isn’t about your personal feelings about how we should handle these immigrants as a country.  That’s for our government to decide.  But no matter if you feel they need to be sent back, or given asylum here, there’s absolutely no excuse to act the way many of these anti-immigrant individuals have behaved toward these immigrants.

It’s disgusting, it’s repulsive and it’s embarrassing.

But this man should be commended for having the courage to stand up against that ignorance and act like an amazing human being.

If someone is doing something that is not interfering with your life, why do you have to become nasty and vile and interfere in their life? I don’t think anyone needs to make it their job to make another human being miserable.

Actually, it is not for our government to decide, but our people to decide. We are a democratically elected republic. Not a monarchy, communistic, etc. That means that we do get to say what our government policies do. We may not practice that right as often as we should and simply sit back and let the government roll, but we do have the obligation and right to say what our government does.

(I do like your fervor and attempt at persuasion despite your leaps in logic though!)

    • Laura Hurt

no, it’s for the government to decide. The people get to vote their government and can let the government know what they feel about what they are doing, but they have to accept what their government is doing. That’s how a chosen government works.

      • Gregg

We do not have to accept what they decide. That is why they are voted in, or out, it is why we can call for special elections on both elected officials NOT in election years as well as special referendums. It is why we can place others into those positions in order to reverse or nullify laws. It is why we can push amendments to the constitution. We the people DO have a say in what happens, how it happens.

    • Yeah…

Did you feel that way when the government got rid of “separate but equal” despite overwhelming opposition by “our people”?

      • Gregg

Yes I do. As a democratically elected republic your vote was passed to your congressman/senator and they vote for you. If you don’t like the vote they cast, see above reply.

prez bush signed a law around 2007 stating that children from central American countries must be able to go through a due process before they can be returned to their country. THAT IS THE LAW, like it or not

      • Gregg

        Umm… okay…. and….?

  • Cemetery Girl

How horrifying! It is sickening that people will threaten someone’s life because they are helping someone else! I hope he doesn’t live in a Stand Your Ground state. If he does one of these nuts could shoot him and say it was self defense because they’re afraid of the scary immigrants he keeps in his home.

  • Donna

Thank you Mark Lane & May God bless you & your family.

  • Guile Williams

Good for him. Screw all the rest of you anti-immigration pricks. You know who you are.

  • Sunnysmom

God Bless this man. You’d think these wackos would be delighted a private citizen and not the government is funding their stay while they are processed by the system.
