Since the second Republican presidential debate, Republicans have been gushing over Carly Fiorina – and I can see why. She’s well-spoken, prepared, professional, confident, and a very strong debater. If I wasn’t someone who paid more attention to what comes out of someone’s mouth as opposed to how they’re saying it, I would probably be fairly impressed by her.
That being said, she’s a terrible candidate. Sure, if she has time to prepare weeks ahead of time for a debate she will perform very well. The problem is, if you really listen to what she’s saying, there’s almost no substance to any of it. Aside from her suggesting she would like to start WWIII with Russia and lying about Planned Parenthood, I have absolutely no clue where she actually stands on the issues. I can guess based on the fact that she’s a Republican, but I’ve never heard her actually spell out specifics for anything she claims she supports. Not only that, but one of her most memorable moments from the second debate, when she spoke about the Planned Parenthood videos, got absolutely shredded by fact-checkers.
Well, during an interview with Fox News’ Chris Wallace on Sunday morning, Fiorina was confronted with the truth that she lied during the debate – and she proceeded to double-down on her lie.
“Do you acknowledge what every fact-checker has found?” Wallace asked. “As horrific as the scene is, it was only described on the video by someone who claimed to have seen it. There is not, no actual footage of the incident you just mentioned.”
“No, I don’t accept that at all,” Fiorina said. “I’ve seen the footage. And I find it amazing, actually, that all these supposed fact-checkers in the mainstream media claim this doesn’t exist, they’re trying to attack the authenticity of the videotape, I haven’t found a lot of people in the mainstream media who has ever watched these things.”
“I mean, they will claim that somebody watched it for them,” she continued. “I will continue to dare anyone who wants to continue to fund Planned Parenthood, watch the videotapes. And anyone who wants to challenge me first is going to have to prove to me that they watched it.”
Ah, yes, the typical go-to move for Republicans when they’re caught in a lie – blame media bias. Funny though, during Wallace’s question even he – a member of Fox News – admitted that what she described during the debate isn’t in the videos to which she was referencing.
This isn’t a matter of semantics or “that’s your opinion, so we’ll have to agree to disagree” – what Carly Fiorina described does not exist in the Planned Parenthood videos.
Carly Fiorina is someone who better enjoy her 15 minutes of fame while she can, because once she gets more national exposure and people find out who she really is – they’re going to realize just how full of it she can be.
