Remember that brief period of time when New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was the “it” guy for the Republican party? He had just steamrolled to an easy re-election bid in a “blue” state and was being talked about as the “favorite” to win the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
My, how times have changed. Since then, it’s been mostly all downhill for Christie.
Since that very brief moment, his biggest “claim to fame” has been the fact he’s essentially become Donald Trump’s lackey over the last few months in an apparent bid to become the presumptive GOP presidential nominee’s running mate this November.
Well, in yet another attempt to prove what a bottom-feeder he really is, Christie is attempting to cut $250 million in health benefits for public employees by withholding aid and social programs to his state’s most depressed cities until his demands are met.
Yes, you read that correctly — Chris Christie is withholding money to help the most impoverished areas of New Jersey in an attempt to force state Democrats to cut $250 million in health benefits from public employees.
As reported by NJ.com:
Christie issued an executive order late Thursday holding in reserve $54 million in transitional aid to cities and $45 million from social programs he did not veto from his budget. He said the funds will remain frozen until the joint employer-employee benefits committees agree to health care changes saving the state $250 million this fiscal year.
The freeze affects half of the appropriation for transitional aid, which typically goes to such low-income cities as Atlantic City, Camden, Paterson, Asbury Park, Harrison and Trenton.
Christie’s executive order also bars spending for such programs as domestic violence prevention, Holocaust survivor assistance and court-appointed special advocates for foster children.
He’s an absolute scumbag.
I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on New Jersey politics, but how he got elected in a relatively blue state in the first place is mind-boggling. How he managed to overwhelmingly get re-elected is even more maddening.
It would make sense for someone like Trump to select him as his VP considering, while different, they’re both egotistical blowhards who are so transparent in how full of crap they are I don’t understand how people don’t see right through them. They’re also two people who will seemingly say and do anything just as long as they think they can get away with it and that it will benefit their own selfish ambitions.
While Christie has done plenty of things that are disgusting, this definitely ranks near the top of the list as one of the most appalling. It’s one thing for a Republican to try to cut health benefits for hard-working people (that’s nothing new), but it’s quite another thing to hold hostage money that’s meant to help poor people, to accomplish a goal of cutting health benefits for public employees.
