City of Paris Planning to Sue Fox News for Damaging City’s Image

megyn-kelly-fox-news-1In what I am calling poetic justice, the city of Paris is planning to sue Fox News over several inaccurate comments aired on the network that the city claims wrongfully slander and defame the French capital. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo told CNN that “the image of Paris has been prejudiced and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced,” and the only solution is to sue the network to reclaim that image.

Though I guess Birmingham, England might also have a similar case on its hands considering the right-wing network perpetuated several false statements about it as well.

Needless to say Fox News has taken a lot of flack recently for its horrific coverage following the Paris attack. Their reporting has been so terrible that they had to issue several public apologies after numerous “experts” the network had brought on to push false information were quickly debunked.

While Fox News’ blatant lies and propaganda are nothing new for Americans (it’s what they do all the time), the world finally got a good look at what the network does on a daily basis here in the United States. That is, push propaganda, lies and misinformation that supports whatever narrative they’re trying to make real.

So when Fox News decided to use their usual flawed and bogus “facts” to support the anti-Muslim rhetoric that’s common on the network in the wake of the terrorist attack in France, it wasn’t anything unexpected for progressives like myself. Like I said, this is what Fox News has built their entire network around – lies, propaganda and misinformation.

But I’m absolutely thrilled that the city of Paris is taking this action against America’s most watched conservative entertainment network.

What I’m enjoying most about this global backlash against Fox News is that they’re being bashed internationally for doing exactly what they’ve been doing for years. They’re not concerned with facts or reality, just pushing an agenda. And in the U.S. they get by with it because there are tens of millions of conservative voters who care more about what they want to hear as opposed to what’s actually factual. So when they’re fed the propaganda and lies from the network, it’s not a big deal. Heck, debunking it doesn’t even work because “that’s just the liberal media trying to cover up the truth.”

That’s how the network operates. They tell their viewers that they are the only network they can trust and every other news source should be dismissed as “liberal lies.” It’s pretty much the same kind of tactics conspiracy theorists and cults use.

But when the global media is after you, with no sort of partisan political agenda behind it, Fox News really can’t use that same argument. The only choice they have right now is to weather the storm and hope it eventually blows over because they’ve been completely exposed. Though this lawsuit is going to make it much more difficult for Fox News to just “let it go” and hope it blows over.

And while I’m sure this will have absolutely no impact on how conservatives view Fox News, it’s still very entertaining as a progressive to see the network getting hammered by the global community for what they’ve been doing here in the United States for years.

I would love to hear more on this when it comes out. Finally someone is gunna hold Fox accountable for their lies, and misleading propaganda.

    • Guest

You can’t prove one thing from FOX News to be a lie you damn LIAR.

      • James Shannon

Did either or you asshole read this article or pay attention. THIS IS PROOF THEY LIED. They admitted it. And retracted their lies. You both are ignorant and you should keep on watching #fauxnews ….. Dummy

    • James Brady

Prove they lied about one thing.

  • rolo1124

It’s so bad that I read the articles about Jindal and people are STILL saying there are No Go zones even after FOX retracted their statements. They heard it once on FOX and now it’s fact, regardless of what EVERYONE else says.

    • James Brady

I never heard it on FOX I have seen it with my own eyes. Anybody stupid enough to say there are not any No Go Zones in that city just proved they know NOTHING about it

      • rolo1124

I’ve been there 4 times and most of my friends (airline people) have been there numerous times and none have seen, been informed of, or heard of a “No Go Zone” Are there bad neighborhoods? Of course, but there are bad neighborhoods everywhere. Are you saying there are official “No Go zones” in the US too or just bad neighborhoods? And I see all your posts, don’t tell me you “Didn’t see it on Fox” I can tell by your posts you’re a dyed in the wool Fox watcher.

  • Cemetery Girl

Does Paris even want visitors that would refuse to travel there now because Fox told them that’s overrun with Muslims? I know there’s the principle of it, but it’s bound to weed out some visitors that they wouldn’t have wanted anyway.

  • Incredibleq Ladee

All I can say is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA it’s about time!

  • Karen

I am no Fox news lover by any stretch of the imagination. But I know some Parisians and even they say that in recent years there are areas in Paris that they are afraid to go to, and therefore not entering, because of the Muslims. That was at least 4 years ago. I am sure the mayor of Paris doesn’t like to hear or admit it, it’s not politically correct. Unfortunately, it’s the reality in the street

    • Kojo

It may be possible that certain areas are more heavily inhabited by muslims but that doesn’t make them ANY more dangerous than anywhere else; if people are afraid to go there, that’s THEIR bigoted ideas. Muslims are not waiting around the corner to jack anybody.

      • Karen

Kojo, sorry to be blunt, but you just don’t get it. You obviously either Muslim or never been in such area. Those areas are very much MORE dangerous than anywhere else. this has NOTHING to do with bigotry. It’s sheer fear!!!

      • Rebecca

Sounds like every other country and city Karen. Yes it is being a bigot for assuming only “Muslim” areas can be dangerous..

      • Karen

We are talking about Paris Rebecca, not every other country and city, please don’t put words in my mouth. Suing Fox news isn’t going to solve the problem. I wish people would care about the issue and not about FOX news being sued.

      • Manon Arnaud

Those area are not dangerous because of the muslims… they are dangerous because there are pickpockets mostly… and there’s a lot of pickpockets because there’s a lot of poberty and so crime and violence might be more important there… it has nothing to do with the religion… but it happens that maybe many poor french people happen to be muslim… it’s way more a sociodemographic problem, than a religious one !
and those areas are not in the center of Paris but around.. you can’t loose yourself walking in Paris and go inadvertently there…

      • Sue Brennan

Thank you for replying to Karen, Manon.

      • Sue Brennan

Karen, read the posts by Manom Arnaud. He lives in Paris and he “gets it” — better than you do, I dare say.

      • Manon Arnaud

        She, I’m a she ! 😉
        And yeah, I get it ! 😉
And if people don’t want to visit Paris anymore, no biggie, the rest of France is way better ! 😉 It’s cheaper, and friendlier and beautiful too ! But eh, there will certainly be muslims… and jews and catholics and atheists etc. France is in the middle of Europe, so it is a melting-pot and it has been for hundreds of years now !

      • Kojo

Karen, can you back up your statement with statistics? You said it yourself: “it’s sheer fear”. That IS the definition of bigotry. There are many of a certain group living in a concentrated area and if there are incidents of violence, people such as yourself attribute it to all of the people who live there even though it may be people of other ethnicities who actually commit crimes there as well. You are the one who completely missed the point.

  • Republicans_are_Evil

Every person or country that FOX “News” lies about needs to sue as well. That may be the only way to get the right wing propaganda off cable forever.

    • Guest

Well there would be NO law suits. Get the picture of Jesus off your post of lies and hate, he would NEVER be associated with you LYING Liberals. Using his picture with your evil agenda and hate is blaspheming. You deserve to burn in HELL.

    • James Brady

      Democrats are the ONLY EVIL.

  • Jmac

There are areas in Paris and the outskirts that the local frenchies won’t go or try to avoid. That’s just the way it is whether you want to believe it or not. Go ask some locals and they will tell you. But good luck trying to sue FNC Mayor and I’m sure they appreciate the publicity. Meanwhile the ratings at FOX have and will continue to go up as more and more people tune in to get the facts. Only far left loonie tunes get their info from blogs like this one, AddictingInfo, Huffington post or some of the idiot comedians like Stewart & Mahr…

    • Sue Brennan

Manon Arnaud, above, who lives in Paris, gives a good description of the situation. Sounds like any large city to me.

  • Manon Arnaud

About the No Go zone (for Jmac) : I’m a local frenchie and if there are place we try to avoid, it’s not because of the islam or the muslims… it’s because it’s not that safe… well, there are some pickpockets, so you have to be prudent… and there are areas in France and around Paris where people have less money than others, and those areas are identified by the gouvernment so they receive a special attention and help from it.
About Fox : do you know that a french tv show (le petit journal from Canal+) was really pissed by Fox, so they asked people every day to send emails to Fox exécutives until they apologize ! And it’s a pretty popular tv show… 🙂

    • Cemetery Girl

So, France is like other countries, and Paris is like other cities, in it has some areas that have crime so people avoid them. I find it interesting that those areas are government identified. Is there a certain crime level that qualifies an area? Does being identified increase funding for law enforcement?

      • Manon Arnaud

It’s not the crime that is identified per se… it’s more the population (more unemployed people, incomes lower than the usual, single-parent family, etc.)… During the 60-70’s, we put all the immigrant population in “new” (at that time) areas, build quickly to accomodate all those immigrants that we needed because there was a lot of job opportunities. Those people were from South europe at first, and after, from Africa mostly.. so poor people would go to those areas because it was cheaper and the french government would give them money to live there too… So at first, it was temporary… and with a good intention… and now, all poor people are in the same place, so they have less services and the environment is harder… so the government focus on those places to help them because it failed them, in a way… and because we think, as a nation, that a nation will be better (and richer) if poor people are helped and taken care of. That’s part of our values, you know: freedom, equality, fraternity

      • Cemetery Girl

Interesting. I agree with a nation being better if they help those in need. A society is only as strong as their weakest links. You can’t expect to have a great society when you have sections of it that lack housing, food, health care, and education.

      • Manon Arnaud

        Yes, exactly 😀
but people often forget that… 🙁
And those services (education, health..) have to be the same that everywhere else in the country in term of quality and quantity….

  • Kojo

Not only did Fox get outed for lies, but the content..racist and bigoted. I really hope their viewers will rub the sleep out of their eyes, straighten the backs of their lazy-boys, call their grandkids and ask for clarification as to what this all means.

  • Amy Hernandez

Perhaps if more countries/groups/individuals follow Paris’ lead, and sue FOX news when they defame them or allow “experts” to spout off nonsense, FOX will be forced to take a LITTLE more effort in verifying their “facts” before they vomit them on the planet.

  • Karen

I think Madam Mayor needs to focus on much larger issues than Fox news.. Sad that that what she worries about when people are being killed in her city.

    • Sue Brennan

So even a direct, honest reply from Manon Arnaud, from Paris, will convince you? Wow, I guess you are the World’d Leading Authority on Paris! You need to go there and tell the Mayor to get her butt out of YOUR office!

      • Sue Brennan

        Sorry — NOT even…will convinc e you.

      • Karen

Sorry Sue, you are missing the point. The article is about the mayor of Paris suing Fox news. Believe me Manon sounds like a wonderful person, but the reason people are not going into these areas is not because they are afraid to be pickpocket, you’ll be naive to think that. I totally agree with Manon that France is a melting pot, but you don’t see Christians or Jews killing and terrorizing, Do you? If people worry more about what Fox say and make their decisions based on Fox and not to the actual NEWS… well

  • Sonny boy

FOX is dead on about no go zones. Suck muslims dont want non muslims in there areas and will attack non muslims if they venture into there areas.

  • Kojo

Yeah Sonny boy, keep touting the same stupid talking points like “muslim president”. You don’t sound like and ‘idiot’ at all, do you? You want to hate the man because his success laughs in the face of your party’s failure. So if you say crap enough times maybe it will stick. Unfortunately, it only sticks to the roof of your mouth. Chew on that.
