CNN’s Chris Cuomo Rips Morning Joe Over Their Hypocrisy on Trump, Sean Hannity (Video)

Nowadays if you watch MSNBC’s Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, you’ll see two people who spend a good amount of time calling out the many scandals, lies, controversies, and other never-ending chaos emanating from Donald Trump and his administration.

However, that wasn’t always the case.

Once upon a time, just over a year ago, the Morning Joe co-hosts were rather friendly with then “president-elect” Trump. In fact, for most of Trump’s campaign, Scarborough and Brzezinski were almost as cozy with Trump as someone like Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

While they eventually did become more critical of Trump, ultimately culminating with this “president” going on a disgusting Twitter tantrum about the two last summer, it clearly isn’t a coincidence that their criticisms of Trump became far more frequent as their access to him waned.

That’s a hypocrisy CNN’s Chris Cuomo mocked Thursday while discussing Hannity and the fact that the Fox News host has effectively become an extension of Trump’s White House.

“Full disclosure, Morning Joe is opposite us for MSNBC in the morning,” Cuomo pointed out. “How is this [Hannity sucking up to Trump] different than Morning Joe?”

“Remember in the days of the glow, when Joe and Mika spoke to Trump all the time, they had him on, discussed what questions to talk about in the break. They were the Trump whisperers,” he added.

He then went on to claim that it was all about ratings for them. However, now that they’re benefiting from being vocal critics of Trump, that’s where they’ve decided to shift their focus.

As much as I appreciate Morning Joe calling out the many horrors of this “president,” I have to admit that Cuomo is absolutely right.

Early on, especially during the campaign phase, Scarborough and Brzezinski were some of Trump’s biggest cheerleaders. They weren’t as bad as Hannity — but they weren’t too far behind, either.

And I get it. In today’s world of media, where ratings unfortunately matter, a large aspect of each of these broadcasts is focused on driving ratings.

That said, that doesn’t change the fact that Morning Joe effectively went from pro-Trump to anti-Trump, not because this “president” changed, but because he turned against them and their ratings have benefited from calling out the many lies, scandals, and controversies that are constantly swirling around Donald J. Trump.

And just like Chris Cuomo said Thursday morning, it’s a fact that really isn’t being called out by anyone, nor are Joe Scarborough or Mika Brzezinski being asked to answer for it, either.
