For months, Donald Trump has been the dominant force in American political discussion. I’m not sure if we’ll ever see a more polarizing figure in presidential politics than Trump has been to the 2016 election. He is single-handedly ripping the Republican party apart, and trying to take the whole country right into the gutter with them.
Though as the wins have piled up for Trump during this primary season, the laughs have now turned into genuine concern. The party itself has all but admitted that if they can stop Trump from becoming the nominee, they will. Even if that means taking the nomination process all the way to a brokered convention. Meanwhile, even the media seems to finally be holding Trump somewhat accountable for his comments and actions.
It’s been fairly obvious that since Super Tuesday there’s been a big shift in how Donald Trump has been discussed by pretty much everyone who isn’t backing “The Donald.”
Well, comedian Louis C.K. apparently felt like getting in on the action, sending out a hilarious and brutal takedown of Trump aimed at those thinking of voting for him.
“Please stop it with voting for Trump. It was funny for a little while. But the guy is Hitler. And by that I mean that we are being Germany in the 30s,” he wrote. “Do you think they saw the shit coming? Hitler was just some hilarious and refreshing dude with a weird comb over who would say anything at all.”
“I get that all these people sound like bullshit soft criminal opportunists,” he continued. “The whole game feels rigged and it’s not going anywhere but down anymore. I feel that way sometimes. And that voting for Trump is a way of saying ‘f*ck it. F*ck them all’. I really get it. It’s a version of national Suicide. Or it’s like a big hit off of a crack pipe. Somehow we can’t help it. Or we know that if we vote for Trump our phones will be a reliable source of dopamine for the next four years. I mean I can’t wait to read about Trump every day. It’s a rush. But you have to know this is not healthy.”
I must point out that he did say he wants to see a conservative elected to “balance” things out after eight years of President Obama. Apparently Louis C.K. thinks that because about half the country is conservative, that we should alternate control of the White House. Of course, I could not disagree with that “logic” more. The reason why we seem to never get anything done is because we constantly go from one ideology to another. I’ve always said to liberals, if they would just get out and vote in 3-4 straight election cycles spanning about 8-10 years, we could bring about tremendous change to this country. But since liberals typically don’t do that, it often takes us many years (even decades) to usher in the progress we want to see brought to this country.
Also, while I get he might have been just saying some of this stuff to say it, there’s flat-out too much on the line this election to let a Republican become our next president. If that happens, I’m really not sure if this country will ever be able to recover.
But Louis C.K. did have a brutally honest message for conservatives:
If you are a true conservative. Don’t vote for Trump. He is not one of you. He is one of him. Everything you have heard him say that you liked, if you look hard enough you will see that he one day said the exact opposite. He is playing you.
And he’s right. The truth is no one really knows where Donald Trump stands on the issues because he literally just seems to change his mind whenever he feels like it. Just because he says something at noon doesn’t mean by 5 o’clock he won’t say something completely different.
He has built an entire campaign on a complete disregard for any semblance of facts or reality. All he does is tell his supporters what they want to hear, feeds into their anger and ignorance, and whips them up into this fascist-like frenzy that should terrify rational people.
While I won’t say Donald Trump “is like Hitler” (because nobody is like Hitler but Hitler), it’s undeniable that Trump’s entire political persona is seemingly derived from fascism.
And if he manages to become our next president, the United States will instantly become the laughingstock of the world.
