It’s pretty much a guarantee that if President Obama does anything, Republicans are going to whine and complain. He can’t even take a vacation without conservatives throwing a fit about the fact that he’s not in Washington. An attack that’s especially hypocritical considering Republican George W. Bush took 879 vacation days in his eight years (with some sources reporting the total as closer to 1,000 days).
By contrast President Obama has taken somewhere between 110-120 vacation days (depends on the source) since he took office in January 2009. In other words, Obama could spend somewhere around 75 percent of the rest of his presidency on vacation and he would still barely equal George W. Bush’s 879 vacation days.
Well, today a skit by Funny or Die known as Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis has gone viral because his “guest” just happened to be President Obama. The gist of the whole bit is that Galifianakis invites famous people on this “show” where he more or less asks them questions which are insults. It’s clearly scripted, but usually hilarious.
So in a bit of marketing genius it seems President Obama decided that a great way to reach out to younger people (who obviously watch this skit more than older folks) was to stage what basically turned into a plug for the Affordable Care Act on Between Two Ferns. Which apparently worked.
Well, some conservatives have lost their minds over it. They seem rather infuriated that the president would waste his time filming this skit instead of, you know, doing other things. With so much going on in the world, how dare President Obama think of anything else!
Funny, I didn’t see many conservatives outraged when several leading members of Congress spent three days at CPAC last week. You know, that convention which is really nothing more than an event where conservatives get together and spout off nonsense for which only the most ignorant among us would cheer.
Where was their outrage?
President Obama filmed this skit in the White House and it probably took less than an hour to do so. It wasn’t like he went to Los Angeles (or wherever they film the show normally). No, they came to him – at the White House.
So here’s the thing – if conservatives aren’t up in arms because many leading conservative politicians spent time at CPAC (a three day event) then they need to shut their mouths when it comes to President Obama filming a skit to promote the Affordable Care Act that probably took less than an hour total.
If you haven’t had a chance to see the skit, check it out here.
