The Daily-Ish: Dubya Paints, Louie Gohmert and Allen West Keep the Crazy Train Going

bushportraitAfter his presidency ended, Jimmy Carter founded the Carter Center. Even today, he travels extensively, working to advance important disease prevention and eradication efforts in developing nations, conduct peace negotiations, and observe elections. George H.W. Bush served as honorary chairman for an organization dedicated to solving social problems through volunteer service, and up until recently, was involved in several other humanitarian causes. Bill Clinton founded the Clinton Global Initiative.

George W. Bush? He paints. Not that there is anything wrong with painting, in fact I like to paint and I think the arts are great. But, while other former presidents donate much of their time to charity, this dunce paints… And pictures of himself in a bathtub no less. Yeah, you heard that correctly, pictures of himself in the bathtub! Gross. That’s like 10x worse than duck face selfies.

On Thursday, Huffington Post reported that, “Former President George W. Bush admitted he was “annoyed” by hackers who leaked images of his paintings, specifically one of himself in the bathtub he painted to “shock” his art instructor.” Talk about a “shock and awe” campaign. Hey, at least for this one Bush can say, “Mission Accomplished,” and actually mean it.

Now, to be fair, he is opening an exhibit at his presidential library called “The Art of Leadership,” which will feature “more than two dozen never-before-exhibited portraits painted by President Bush,” according to Time. However, wouldn’t the project be so much better if there was a social purpose behind it? Bush could go to low income neighborhoods and teach painting to poor kids. That at least would be commendable.

Though the truth is that Bush should really be painting from a jail cell. Not for being a dunce, but for being the dunce that allowed Dick Cheney and his cronies to basically control his entire presidency and manufacture a war that left hundreds of thousands dead. And some people will ask, “Well how can he be a dunce and a criminal genius at the same time?” Cheney was the genius, Bush got duped, they both should be charged with war crimes.

Anyways, I guess in the end it’s better that he paints. At least he isn’t hurting anyone by doing so, unless of course you count the people who have been blinded by the sight of him in a bathtub. Le sigh.

Speaking of dunces. Have you heard the latest from Louie Gohmert? I mean this kind of stuff shouldn’t really shock you considering Gohmert is so crazy even his own party tries to distance itself from him, but really the stupid, it burns. While making a presentation for World Net Daily, or as my colleague Erin Nanasi likes to call it, “Wing Nut Daily,” Gohmert said that separation of church and state, “was to be a one-way wall where the state would not dictate to the church, but the church would certainly play a role in the state.” Apparently the separation part of the phrase separation of church and state is lost on him. While our founding fathers did in fact say that our rights were “endowed by our creator,” because they were (mostly) Deists, it is likely that they were referring to “our creator” in a Deist sense, not in a Christian one. Furthermore, Thomas Jefferson made it very clear in his famous letter to the Danbury Baptist Church that church and state must remain separate. Still, the Christian right isn’t going to listen to me on this. Best to just quote St. Reagan in these situations,

“We in the United States, above all, must remember that lesson, for we were founded as a nation of openness to people of all beliefs. And so we must remain. Our very unity has been strengthened by our pluralism. We establish no religion in this country, we command no worship, we mandate no belief, nor will we ever. Church and state are, and must remain, separate. All are free to believe or not believe, all are free to practice a faith or not, and those who believe are free, and should be free, to speak of and act on their belief.

At the same time that our Constitution prohibits state establishment of religion, it protects the free exercise of all religions. And walking this fine line requires government to be strictly neutral.”

Well at least Reagan had something right.

Lastly we have Allen West. Allen was so crazy he lost his seat in Congress. Now he goes on Fox News and spews propaganda to other crazy people. This time around he tried to link the President’s comments on Crimea to the fatal Fort Hood shooting that occurred on Wednesday. Of course that’s the strategy isn’t it? Blame the President for everything. Got in a car accident? Blame Obama. It rained on Tuesday? Must be Obama’s fault. A deranged veteran opens fire at a military base? Must have been those comments Obama made about Ukraine. Oh, and don’t forget BENGHAZIIIIIIII!!!!!!

What worse is that these people will actually believe him, just like they believe Alex Jones every time he yells “false flag!” Oh yeah, you know that’s coming next. Brace yourselves!

Then again I’m not really surprised, these guys just make this stuff up as they go along. Facts? What facts? We don’t need no stinking facts!

Can GWB actually be this self-fixated ?

Even if I write off the painting of him in the bathtub as a prank on his art instructor, the picture for this article is GWB standing in front of what is presumably a self-portrait.

Same mindset that made it fun for him to whack frat pledges with a heated coathanger… never grew up.
