This is another one of those stories where after reading it, I unfortunately laughed a little. It’s unfortunate because someone died and I feel bad laughing at the fact that a life was lost.
That being said, it’s really hard not to laugh at this story due to the sheer idiocy of it.
A Michigan man trying to teach his girlfriend gun safety accidentally killed himself when one of the guns he was using went off.
Which is tragic, no doubt – but not completely.
See, this wasn’t a horrific accident as a man nobly tried to teach his girlfriend proper safety when handling a gun. It wasn’t like she accidentally fired a loaded weapon killing him. A bullet didn’t accidentally ricochet off something, killing the gentleman.
Nope. None of that.
What this individual did was put three different guns to his head, pulling the trigger each time. The first two guns didn’t discharge. However, the third one did – killing the unnamed man.
His girlfriend reported that he had been drinking throughout the day prior to his attempts to teach her “gun safety.”
I really want to feel bad. And I do on some level because a son, brother, possible father, friend, boyfriend died. I feel bad for those who cared for this guy and the loss they’ll have to deal with going forward.
But at the same time, I can’t directly feel bad for him.
What kind of an idiot puts not one, but three guns to their head trying to teach “gun safety?” Then what kind of idiot pulls the trigger three different times?
Now I get that alcohol might have been involved, but come on. Millions of gun owners drink, and many of those who drink get drunk. What they don’t do is drink, then try to teach “gun safety” to someone by putting three different guns to their head – pulling the trigger each time.
Besides, whatever happened to checking to make sure your guns weren’t loaded and the chamber didn’t have a round loaded inside? It seems someone desperately needed to teach this guy something about gun safety.
First lesson, you don’t put a loaded gun to your head and pull the trigger because there’s a good chance you won’t survive.
Well, I guess the gun did teach him that lesson about gun safety. Unfortunately for him, his friends and family, he had to learn the hard way.
To me, this is darwinism at work. Evolution of the species. Survival of the fittest.
And while it’s sad that someone lost their life, there’s only one person at fault for this death – the guy who decided the best way to teach “gun safety” was to put a gun to his head and pull the trigger.
