Dear Mainstream Media: Stop Acting Stupid Concerning the Popularity of Donald Trump

Once upon a time, most political pundits were well-respected journalists who asked tough questions, spoke the truth and informed people. Like they were meant to do. But with the advent of revenue-driven media, many of these folks (and there are still some good ones out there), have been turned into glorified talk show hosts. Sure, there are still times where you see a hard-hitting interview conducted, but those are seemingly special events when they used to be every day occurrences.

Though I think what drives me crazy about this new day and age of soft-hitting journalism is how stupid these people pretend to act all for the sake of “not wanting to rock the boat.” Granted, many have had their hands tied behind their backs because ratings and money take precedent over being upfront, credible and honest. After all, they certainly wouldn’t want to scare off any potential viewers by appearing to be partisan – even when what they’re saying is actually true.

Take for instance the idiocy surrounding the coverage of Donald Trump. For months I’ve heard these folks act totally and completely confused about the fact that he’s become so popular. I was watching CNN yesterday and one of these “experts” said they tried for months to figure it out but they just can’t.

Well, let me go ahead and solve this “mystery” that many refuse to say out of fear that “The Donald” won’t grace their network with his presence… which might risk viewers and ad revenue.

Donald Trump’s rise is about bigotry, racism, paranoia, hate and people who don’t give a damn about the truth.

Over the last six or so months I’ve directly dealt with hundreds (if not thousands) of Trump supporters. Trust me when I say that these people couldn’t care less about facts. To many, if Trump doesn’t say it, it’s not true. No matter much evidence you show them proving that something he said was a lie – they do not care. In their minds, that evidence is just “part of a conspiracy by the media to silence him.”

If he says unemployment is 42 percent – to them it’s 42 percent. It doesn’t matter if he has zero evidence to support his absurd claim, he said it – so that’s all that matters.

Though what’s ironic is that many of his supporters claim that a big reason why they support him is that “he tells the truth.”

No he doesn’t!

In fact, he seemingly lies more than any other presidential candidate – including pathological liar Ted Cruz.

Trump is pandering to irrational paranoia, hate, racism, bigotry and simply telling these ignorant fools what they want to hear. And to them, what they want to hear is what they think is “the truth.” Because they think illegal immigrants are flooding over here in record numbers (they’re not); or that the country is doing worse than it was in 2008 (it’s not); or that President Obama isn’t doing anything to combat ISIS (he is to the tune of thousands of airstrikes and special forces); or most Muslims are terrorists (they’re not) – in their minds, that’s all true. Even though none of it is.

So when Trump stands up there and tells them all these myths based upon what they think is real, to them, that’s him “telling the truth.” Even though all he’s really doing is pandering to the delusions in their own minds.

The rise of Donald Trump isn’t a great mystery. In fact, I’ve argued that he’s the perfect Republican candidate. He’s:

  • Arrogant
  • Racist
  • Bigoted
  • Anti-immigrant
  • Sexist
  • Prejudiced
  • Bashes being politically correct
  • Pushes paranoia
  • Attacks the media
  • Exploits Christianity when he thinks it will get him votes
  • He lies almost constantly

In so many ways we were all foolish to think that Trump wasn’t going to be a leading Republican candidate. All the signs were there. We were all just too distracted by the cartoonish mannerisms and the hair to realize that he’s everything most Republicans have been dreaming about for years.

So, while the media will undoubtedly continue to play stupid as to why Donald Trump has become a leading presidential candidate, this isn’t any sort of mystery. It’s not even hard to figure out. Donald Trump tells ignorant, hateful, racist bigots exactly what they want to hear – and they’re loving him for it.
