Over the last few days, another controversy emerged from the Trump campaign after the presumptive Republican presidential nominee called a judge a “hater” and a “Mexican” for unsealing documents related to lawsuits against Trump University. Basically, Donald Trump accused the judge of making the decision to unseal the documents this week out of some sort of personal vendetta related to his controversial comments about Mexican immigrants.
There’s just one problem — the judge is a born and bred American.
Well, during an interview on CNN’s New Day, Trump’s national spokeswoman Katrina Pierson crashed and burned when she was pressed by host Alisyn Camerota about his remarks concerning the judge.
“But this judge isn’t Mexican. He was born here. He’s American,” Camerota stated.
“I’m not saying he’s Mexican,” Pierson replied.
“But Mr. Trump is saying he’s Mexican,” Camerota countered.
“He says we ‘believe’,” Pierson said interrupting Camerota.
“But what’s the point of that? Why is he going after an ethnicity? What’s the point?” Camerota pressed.
Pierson then tried to claim that the judge was linked to Latino groups who’ve been protesting Trump.
“OK, but you recognize that Mr. Trump is wrong?” Camerota asked.
“I don’t know if he’s Mexican,” Pierson replied. “I don’t know his heritage or his descent.”
“Okay, for the record, he’s American, but we hear you, Katrina,” Camerota said concluding the interview.
I’ve watched several interviews Pierson has given over the last few months and I still have no idea how she’s ranked so high within his campaign. Not only does she seem to be absolutely clueless about key issues someone in her position needs to know, but in my opinion, she’s batsh*t crazy.
While I’m sure it won’t matter to most Trump supporters who obviously don’t seem to care about facts whatsoever, this interview was a disaster. Here we had Camerota flat-out telling her that this judge is an American citizen who was born in this country, yet Pierson continued to act as if this fact was still somewhat debatable.
You could tell throughout the exchange that Camerota was irritated with Pierson, who was clearly going out of her way to avoid saying that Trump was wrong and that the judge is, in fact, an American citizen.
Fanning the flames of racism and prejudice is a large part of what Donald Trump’s campaign has been about from the very start, which is exactly why Pierson had to play dumb during this interview when she knew that Camerota was right. If she had agreed with the CNN host that Trump was wrong, then she would essentially be admitting that he called the judge a “Mexican” in a blatant attempt to work up the bigots and racists among his supporters.
Either way, that’s what every rational person in this country knows Trump was doing when he made these comments.
