His supporters will never admit it, but Donald Trump’s in the midst of one of the most spectacular political meltdowns in U.S. history. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say that the last few weeks might have been some of the worst we’ve seen a candidate endure this close to an election — ever.
From being outclassed by Hillary Clinton at each of the debates, to the growing list of women accusing him of sexual assault following the release of the 2005 video where he admitted to being a sexual predator, it seems like every single day things get worse for the Trump campaign. Furthermore, it becomes exponentially more difficult to improve the situation when a lot of the backlash he’s faced has been due to self-inflicted stupidity.
Even when he “apologized” for the comments from that 2005 video, he tried to make excuses for what he said by saying it was just “locker room talk” — then tried making himself look better by saying what Bill Clinton has allegedly done is far worse.
Well, it seems things have gotten so bad for Trump that even disgraced former Fox News CEO and fellow sexual assaulter Roger Ailes has abandoned him because advising him was a “waste of time.”
As New York magazine’s Gabriel Sherman revealed on stage at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit on Wednesday morning, Trump has lost one key ally: Roger Ailes. The former Fox News boss had reportedly served as an advisor to Trump throughout the campaign. He was said to have played a particularly important role as of late, helping him prepare for the presidential debates.
That’s all changed now, according to Sherman and Vanity Fair contributing editor Sarah Ellison. The reason for the fallout depends on who you ask.
“Ailes’s camp said Ailes learned that Trump couldn’t focus—surprise, surprise—and that advising him was a waste of time,” Sherman said. “These debate prep sessions weren’t going anywhere.”
Apparently the two are no longer talking, after being friends for many years.
I wouldn’t say this is huge news, but it is rather telling that someone as unethical and deplorable as Ailes couldn’t last more than a few weeks advising Trump because apparently “The Donald” is too incompetent to stay focused and he was wasting his time dealing with the egotistical man-child.
You know things are bad within Trump’s campaign when someone who spent two decades running a right-wing propaganda “news” channel dedicated to creating the environment that ultimately led to Trump’s rise within the GOP abandons ship this close to the election because he realizes it’s a lost cause trying to reason with the orange buffoon.
Something tells me that if Donald Trump ultimately loses this election, we’re going to see a record number of tell-all books and wild stories from people who will find ways to let everyone know what an absolute circus Trump’s campaign was.
Because if someone as unscrupulous as Roger Ailes can’t even stomach you, that’s a pretty strong sign that things are probably much worse than most of us realize.
