Well, so much for the hate against Ted Nugent being “liberally biased.” An east Texas town, Longview to be exact, is actually paying Ted Nugent $16,000 to not play at their annual Fourth of July festival.
And trust me when I tell you, being a Texas resident (and having family out near Longview), that area damn sure isn’t anything you could call “liberal.” It’s about as right-wing conservative as you can get. It’s in deep east Texas, a mile from Louisiana and only a couple of hours from Arkansas or Oklahoma.
Longview’s public information officer Shawn Hara said, “We decided that that wasn’t the direction we wanted to go for the festival.”
Perhaps it was Nugent using Nazi references when talking about President Obama, or the fact that he sang a song about his sexual desire for very young girls, but it’s pretty bad when a conservative icon like Ted Nugent is being told by a very conservative area of Texas to stay away. Not only that, he’s being paid to stay away.
Naturally, the county Republican Party Chair Keith Rothra tried to make this into an issue of Longview giving into “political pressure.” He said:
“I’m sad the City of Longview has done this. I think it was done by a great deal of political correctness, political pressure. We have various performers who have made all kinds of statements that rattled people’s conscience and yet they are still slated as performers.”
Mr. Rothra is really trying to say that Longview, Texas – a very conservative area of Texas – felt political pressure to abide by some form of “political correctness” in canceling Nugent? Seriously?
Trying to disassociate yourself with someone like Ted Nugent has nothing to do with “political correctness,” but rather the fact that Nugent is a deplorable human being and everyone (Republican or Democrat alike) should be ashamed to associate with him.
He’s a racist, draft-dodging sexual predator, and I applaud the town of Longview, Texas for taking a stand by telling Ted Nugent to stay the hell away.
