Florida Congressman Makes One of the Most Ridiculous Arguments Against Climate Change I’ve Ever Heard (Video)

congressman-jeff-millerWhen it comes to Republicans and climate change, I’ve hit a point where I can no longer take these people seriously.  When an “acceptable” answer for the GOP is “I’m not a scientist so I don’t know,” as it relates to climate change, you know they’ve pretty much lost the argument.

Because the fact is scientists do know and the overwhelming majority of them say that humans are at least partially responsible for accelerating climate change.

Well, in what might be one of the most asinine statements concerning climate change I’ve ever heard, Florida Republican Representative Jeff Miller seems to believe that climate change can’t possibly be influenced by man because the dinosaurs went extinct.

During an interview with MSNBC’s Richard Lui, Miller was pressed on the question of whether or not climate change is being accelerated by humans.

“Then why did the dinosaurs go extinct? Were there men that were causing – were there cars running around at that point that were causing global warming?  No,”  Miller concluded.  “The climate has changed since Earth was created.”

Yeah, just let that stupidity sink in for a moment.

To be honest, if someone said that to my face I don’t know if I could keep myself from laughing hysterically.

The level of ignorance it takes to sit there with a straight face and honestly claim that because the dinosaurs went extinct without the existence of humans that means that humans couldn’t possibly accelerate climate change is astounding.

And this is a member of Congress who’s served for 11 years who said this.

Though he seems to have forgotten that millions of Republican voters actually believe that humans and dinosaurs once co-existed on Earth.  You know, the people who consider themselves creationists.

On the side of those of us who believe that humans are accelerating climate change, we have the vast majority of the world’s scientists, otherwise known as some of the smartest people on the planet.  While on the side of those who don’t believe that humans are playing any part, they have people who claim dinosaurs and humans co-existed or that human-influenced climate change is impossible because dinosaurs went extinct without the presence of humans.

Can you see why it’s impossible for me to take these people seriously?

These climate change deniers would almost be comical if their ignorance wasn’t posing a threat to the lives of basically every living thing on this planet.

I do not know who is more stupid: Politicians like these who say unintelligent things like this or their political supporters who believe these arguments to the point of not even entertaining other arguments? These guys literally give the intellectual lazy a reason NOT to consider other explanations because “thinking is hard.”

I weep for the death of critical thinking skills in this country.

Here’s the truly scary part….(this guy is in my district) The reddest district in Florida and the 15th reddest district in the country and he has NO OPPONENTS except for one tea party member, Krause, who is probably worse, and he will remain in his seat until a decent opponent comes along. He has run basically unopposed for years. This district is so red no democrat will run!!!

The sad part is that he thinks he’s clever. He thinks he’s stumbled on some simple answer that no one has ever thought of to a horribly complicated problem. This is the arrogance and ignorance of the tea party and conservatives in general.
