Fox News Host Elisabeth Hasselbeck Inserts Benghazi Into NFL Scandal, Because Of Course

fox_ff_hasselbeck_videogames_130917e-615x345Just as soon as we thought we were done with Benghazi, Fox News decides to pull it back out for the sake of ratings and the fall election. Yup, you heard that right, Benghazi is back and Fox is all over it once again.

Nobody in the mainstream media has done more to parade the corpses of the 4 U.S. citizens who died that night in September 2012 for political propaganda than Fox News. They’ve also managed to avoid bringing up the fact that Congressional Republicans have repeatedly voted to cut funding for diplomatic security, which may or may not have been a factor leading to the death of Ambassador Stevens and three others two years ago. All the diplomats, soldiers and American citizens who died in attacks on diplomatic posts under previous administrations? Those get conveniently ignored but Benghazi keeps popping up over and over again for the sake of ratings and scoring political points.

You see, at Fox News, everything is somehow connected to Benghazi like the six degrees of separation. Perhaps I’m slightly exaggerating, but if you subject yourself to watching enough of it, that’s the way it would seem. Because nothing else gets the armchair patriots riled up and donating to Sarah PAC or others like bringing up the same tired old talking points and promises that a new leak will finally implicate Hillary Clinton or even the president himself.

No matter what, it’s Benghazi. Rain in Seattle this weekend? Benghazi. The President made par on a golf game with some staffers? Benghazi. Some lunatic tried to jump the White House fence? Benghazi. NFL scandal involving domestic abuse of girlfriends or kids by a player? You got it, Benghazi!

From Media Matters, which does a better job of keeping up with the nonsense on Fox than I do:

Fox News host Elisabeth Hasselbeck connected an ongoing National Football League controversy surrounding domestic violence to the September 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya.

The Fox & Friends host tweeted September 16, “Imagine if everyone that asked for transparency in the #nfl @nfl Demanded that same #transparency in our #government,” adding the hashtags “#Benghazi” and “#IRS,” references to the terrorist attack and the alleged targeting by the IRS of tax exempt organizations. (Source)

And just for proof, here’s the screenshot I took from her Twitter account.

As I’ve said before, barring the nomination of Bernie Sanders or someone else in 2016, Fox News and just about everyone else knows the job is Hillary Clinton’s if she wants it. With that in mind, Fox and the Republican Party have done everything they can to bring up the subject of Benghazi over and over again, despite not having found one shred of evidence that anyone in President Obama’s administration was negligent in any way.

Why? Because that’s the only thing they can really attack President Obama and Hillary Clinton on. Unemployment is down from where it was at during the height of the Great Recession, the stock market is near a record high and the deficit is shrinking. Sure, they’ll blame the crisis in Iraq on President Obama, despite the fact the troop withdrawal timetable was set by a Bush Administration agreement with Nouri al-Malaki who is partially responsible for the situation we are dealing with now. The job market still sucks, but then that brings up the uncomfortable fact that trickle-down economics doesn’t work after all.

In the world of the hardcore Fox News devotee, President Obama’s birth certificate is still a fake and Hillary Clinton is still responsible for Benghazi – and that’s what they’ll repeat over and over again until November 2016. You can count on that.

It saddens me to a small degree, that her husband was a quarterback, taking up a roster spot, on my favorite football team. He didn’t do much then, and I haven’t heard much about him since. I know this has nothing to do with the things she says.

    • Matt is no longer with the Seahawks because…Benghazi. And President Obama probably had something to do with it too.

      • Greenhell

Matt isn’t her husband. Her husband is the lesser hasselbeck. Tim Hasselbeck.

      • Jimmy Two Times

Hasselbeck the Lesser. [email protected]&$ng funny.

      • Stephen Barlow

        Hasselbottom?

      • Then I take back all the mean thoughts I’ve been having about Matt being married to her, since apparently, he’s not… 🙂

      • Michael Doyle

That’s right. I was talking about Tim Hasselbeck, Failed QB and brother of Matt. Hopefully your attack on our President was sarcasm.

      • Our President has enough on his plate without me ‘attacking’ him. 🙂

After years of running interference to help with a half-dozen or so Obama administration cover-ups the Left suddenly jumps up to champion transparency and confession from the NFL.

She doesn’t have anything factual to rely on, Jimmie,, and as a Tea Party dope you don’t care. Try factual reality sometime, kid, it ain’t really all that scary.

      • Jim Bean

The Left is demanding transparency from the NFL and NOT demanding it from the Obama administration.

I fail to see her need for anything more factual to rely upon.

  • Eg Kbbs

At first didn’t see it. But thinking about it, NFL is big time money and makes a fortune for the TV producers (both direct broadcast as well as getting viewers to tune in in to the “news” in order to get the scores).

So of course the media would try to deflect attention away from the poor response of the NFL. NFL was slow to act when their representative knocked his fiance unconscious and then callously drug her part way out of the elevator (the big strong player didn’t even try to pick her up. Dragging her didn’t even extend the dignity one would give to a sack of potatos).

Now the NFL player who beat a 4 or 5 year old kid, leaving cuts and bruises on arms, legs, hands, and even scrotum that were readily visible a week later (not to mention a previous investigation for child abuse that was dropped). He was removed from the team for a week ? How many games did he miss ? And the media response has been to call this a spanking and ask viewers’ opinions about spanking. Then add in Faux News deflecting the question away from child abuse to Benghazi. This way he gets to play in a pivotal game this weekend.

    • chowtime

The NFL handled that right to be honest that whole event is between 2 plp and one organization. That’s Ray Rice, His wife, and the Law. She’s still with him after all that and didn’t press charges so if the victim isn’t concerned about why should the NFL be pressured to take corporal punishment on players for something the law is responsible for. This is 2014 woman know when there in there in danger there are a lot of dudes locked up for domestic violence n if Ray Rice get charged he’s done playing anyway. That suspension doesn’t hurt him it hurts his family n others he’s supporting with his salary.

Where, when, and how did Obama “fook up”? Do you have any proof, any evidence, that multiple Congressional investigations couldn’t find? Nothing reported by FAUX News (or NewsBusters, or any right-wing “news” outlet — they all follow FOX’s lead, and lie like dead dogs) counts for jack.

The funniest thing being that they truly believe that *somehow* BENGHAZI will be what keeps her from being elected.

    • Stephen Barlow

Astute observation! The ONLY thing keeping her from Finishing What Obama started will be ignorant voters who put the Tea party in power in the FIRST PLACE!

  • The Reader

Elizabeth Hasselbeck reminds me of the sweet women who stamp their feet in frustration because no one takes them seriously. It’s not sexist; everyone knows someone like that. Elizabeth is one of the lucky ones. The Republicans take her seriously enough to invite her to their parties and convention. Her comment on Benghazi was the typical Fox trick to keep dissension going. Since Obamacare has become tiresome, they return to Benghazi. The only thing I don’t understand is why their listeners keep growing. Surely, it’s not because they want honest, investigative news.

    • Ivan Renko

It’s not sexist; everyone knows someone like that.

      It most definitely is sexist.

you just proved that you can not stand someone disagreeing with you (and with proof you are wrong) either.

    • Kawika Mac

There were 60 people killed in 13 attacks on US Embassies and Consulates under the Cheney/Bush regime … where was the outrage then? Where were the multi-million dollar taxpayer-paid investigations then??

      • posterboy

That money went to hunt down Osama Bin Laden who claimed responsibility for the attacks on our embassies in Kenya and Nairobi among others. You libs would never be satisfied regardless… We wither spend too much money on security or we don’t spend enough??!!!

      • Larry Wasnesky

It was a republican led Congress that turned down funding for more security at our embassies.

      • Stephen Barlow

        THREE YEARS IN A ROW!!!

      • doughpro

Where, among those people, do you see an American Ambassador being attacked and murdered? How many of those killed were Americans? Ambassadors are not supposed to be targeted for murder.
I cannot the fathom the ignorance of those who do not see the seriousness of the Benghazi situation. Our “protectors” stood by while our Ambassador was attacked and murdered, and still stood by while others tried to help him. It’s a disgrace that will forever tarnish the legacy of Obama’s administration and Hillary Clinton.

      • Larry Wasnesky

Can you fathom Bush, Iraq, Lie, 4,500 dead Americans, 180,000 innocent Iraq’es dead for nothing. Now that is serious. How many times do you have to hear that there was no cover up in Benghazi, and it came from Republicans holding these witch hunts. No stand down order was ever given, that by republicans investigating. How about your gang , Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice wanted by the Hague for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Is that serious to you? are you proud of them ? It is a national disgrace and embarrasment. Bush had to cancel a trip to Switzerland in 2012 for fear of arrest,How many presidents can you say that about…0.Oh
how I wish that he had gone and was arrested and left to rot to death for all
that blood on his hands. Is it serious to you that the man really pushing for the Iraq was Cheney and he made a fortune with investments from Haliburton , Now that should be investigated. Haliburton made record breaking profits off of Iraq.. Ae you outraged That 185,000 are dead for no reason because of your GW Bush ? or are you being ignorant of all of those facts.185,000 people dead people and not a peep from the right at all. Sad and Pathetic !

      • Stephen Barlow

Bush CAN NOT leave American soil, nor even travel in international waters or air space…

      • Sunny Ray

Bush could teach you about seriousness of a situation… “Bin Laden… I don’t know where he is. I really just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you.” March 2002.

      • Stephen Barlow

But them HOW did THAT become the PURPOSE when the WMD LIE was found to be falseified?

      • John Doyle

What’s sad is that you are more upset with Obama and Hillary over Benghazi that those that actually committed murder. Very telling…

      • Stephen Barlow

        SADLY astute.

      • Angela Walker

Try reading “The Benghazi Hoax” (available for your kindle) instead of simply swallowing the tripe Fox puts on your plate, doughie.

      • doughpro

By David Brock? LOL. No thank you. I think someone is swallowing tripe, but it’s not me.

      • Hail Eris!

The saddest part of your lunacy is your utter inability to accept that multiple Congressional investigations, by Republicans, have all failed to find a shred of evidence that Obama or any member of his admin were guilty of any misconduct, in the Benghazi affair.

        Snarky
Exile is relief disguised as penance.

      • Larry Wasnesky

Darrell Issa has wasted well over 150 million dollars so far for hearings that proved nothing. You are right about no outrage from the right on 13 embassy attacks. I would also like to know where the CONS outrage is/was for 4,500 dead Americans and over 180,000 innocent Iraq’es killed(murdered) for nothing. Just a lie. Where were those hearings? If the republicans ever want to see the White House again they need to ditch the tea party. The only people who like the TP are those in the TP.

What is sad, and not just a little irritating, is the sheer number of people in this country who swallow the drivel that comes from FauxNews. Not that anyone should take what MSNBC says without a grain of salt, but the so called conservative viewpoint in this country is disgusting.

At least MSNBC is up front about their political leanings. Faux news constantly denies their political bias and, if im not mistaken, still call themselves fair and balanced. What a joke.

I see the hidden misogyny of the left, along with the left’s “if I repeat it enough, it will be so” mentality regarding Benghazi in your comment. The story may be “dead” (bad pun, BTW) to you and your ilk, but it’s not to those concerned about finding the truth.

  • Rev. Tom

The thing that I find the most disheartening about the way the GOP and Farce News use the Benghazi tragedy is that while they claim to be doing this to honor the lives of fallen Marines, they have only succeeded in turning Benghazi into the punchline of a bad joke. It is the opposite of respectful.

    • Ivan Renko

Thank you for your concern, Rev. Tom. That must be difficult for you, coming to terms and all. Maybe go for a long walk. Or meditate. Perhaps journal your thoughts. Anything to take your mind off what Fox News is doing to your life and your happiness, knowing that simply changing the channel is not an option you have right now.

      • Stephen Barlow

WOW!! who’d a thought intelligent advice from THAT source?

What NEW questions were ASKED in the 2nd Foolhardy “investigation” that were NOT ANSWERED in the first?

We weren’t told during the first investigations that operatives at embassy would attest they were told to delay responding to the attack (not to be confused with an order to ‘stand down.’)

  • averagejill

Wow. I don’t think it is too difficult to understand that her tweet was simply commenting on the fact that people are more concerned with finding the truth in a sports scandal than they are in finding the truth about what our government is doing. I’m so sick of BOTH sides of the politically – motivated media spinning stories to suit their purposes. Real news is politically unbiased. And no longer exists in this country. How is anyone with half a brain supposed to trust anything that comes from the MSM? #growup

    • Stephen Barlow

On Sunday, there is only ONE side!

    • Hail Eris!

Generally speaking, if you’re trying to find out what the NSA, the CIA, or any other US intelligence agency, at all, is doing, they’re going to assume, not without reason, that you’re either a spy, a traitor, or both, years of locking you up in Gitmo before they ever consider the possibility that you might be a mere concerned citizen — regardless of the party in power. The party in power does not get to have absolute power over the bureaucracy. So, even if it were the Green or Libertarian party in control of Congress and the White House, the level of oversight, WRT the various spy agencies, would not allow full disclosure of what those agencies are about, what they really do. As far as Benghazi is concerned, remember that it was also a CIA listening post; inquiring too closely into what happened could cause one to *disappear*.

Furthermore, the whole point about Benghazi is, there was no misconduct by any member of the Obama admin; the problem was simply Republicans voting, over and over again, to reduce diplomatic budgets, to reduce security. To the GOP, and their supporters, I can only say, “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.”
