I’m not sure what’s more amusing, the fact that Fox News’ slogan is “Fair and Balanced” or that tens of millions of people actually believe that they’re fair and balanced.
I think the worst part is Fox News doesn’t even try to hide their bias. They’re essentially an anti-Obama propaganda machine, masquerading as a news organization.
Recently, Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro tried to claim that President Obama is responsible for the leader of the I.S.I.S., Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, being free.
Pirro said, “The head of this band of savages is a man named Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, the new Osama Bin Laden. A man released by Obama in 2009, who started ISIS a year later. And when Baghdadi left Camp Bucca, where the worst of the worst were held in Iraq, he threatened his American jailers saying, ‘I’ll see you in New York.’”
Just one small problem with that – it’s not true. In fact, it got a rating of “False” by Politifact.
If you want to “blame” a president for the release of al Baghdadi, the only one you could blame is George W. Bush.
Politifact found exactly two possible scenarios behind the release of al Baghdadi – and they both point to the Bush administration.
According to the Defense Department he was released in 2004, not 2009. Well before Obama became president.
But let’s say the Defense Department is confused and he was still in custody past 2004. Toward the end of his second term, Bush signed an agreement with the Iraqi government that called for the U.S. to turn over nearly all of their detainees. From there, many of those detainees were then released in 2009, by the Iraqi government – not President Obama.
So, to put it in very simple terms, in neither of the only two plausible scenarios did President Obama have anything to do with the release of al Baghdadi. Though it’s clear that the Bush administration was in charge either when he was set free, or when the agreement was signed that led to his eventual freedom.
Yet once again we have Fox News, in true conservative fashion, trying to blame something on President Obama that actually occurred during the Bush administration.
