In what might be some the most racist comments about the president I’ve heard in some time (at least from someone who’s a fairly high profile political commentator), Fox News’ “Medical A-Team” Doctor Keith Ablow pretty much accused the president of hating white America and taking the side of Africans because those are “his people.” And he also insinuated that the only reason why the American people elected President Obama is because we suffered from Stockholm Syndrome.
During an appearance on Fox News’ The John Gibson Show, Ablow asserted that the president believes the United States should feel shame, saying, “Perhaps least of all this country because he has it in for us as disappointing people. People who’ve been a scourge on the face of the Earth. And so for him to then say we’re going to seal the borders and protect Americans when in my view, in his mind, if only unconsciously, he’s thinking, ‘Really? We’re going to prevent folks suffering with illnesses from coming across the border flying into our airports when we have visited a plague of colonialism that has devastated much of the world, on the world? What is the fairness in that?’ I believe Barack Obama is thinking.”
He then went on to assert that President Obama actually hates the United States.
“How can you protect a country you don’t like? Why would you?,” Ablow continued.
Because that makes total sense, right? This is the kind of nonsense that’s literally pulled right out of the conservative media’s collective asses that’s based on absolutely nothing. These are the kinds of things that racists say, without being overtly racist. Because you’ve never heard comments such as these uttered about a white president.
But I think most of us with common sense have known since the very beginning that this conservative rhetoric of “he’s not one of us” is rooted in racism.
Though Ablow wasn’t done there. In fact, his real ignorance hadn’t even shined through yet. He then went on to explain why he thinks Obama hasn’t instituted a travel ban on Africa.
“His affiliations are with them. Not us,” he insisted. “That’s what people seem unwilling to accept. He’s their leader. We don’t have a president. We don’t have a president who has the American people as his primary interest.”
Again, this is a “medical expert” Fox News often turns to for medical advice. Though I think it’s clear that Ablow uses his background as a way to push his own b.s. personal propaganda.
But even then his insanity wasn’t finished. He then went on to suggest that the American people elected President Obama because we were suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. That’s why we elected someone “who has names very similar to two of our archenemies, Osama, well, Obama. And Hussein.”
“And I think that we became psychologically mired in a form of national Stockholm Syndrome,” Ablow asserted. “We said to ourselves, and the world, ‘Look at this guy. We’re going to elect this guy president. Why would you attack us? We’re not even voting for somebody who likes us. This guy, who has names very similar to two of our archenemies, Osama, well, Obama. And Hussein. Hussein. Surely you won’t attack us now because we’ve got a shield here of a guy who, as the leader of our country says we’re bad. So leave us alone. We get the message.'”
If you doubted the assertion I just made about him exploiting his medical background to push his own personal propaganda, that ridiculous accusation pretty much proves it. This wasn’t some kind of real attempt at a medical analysis. This was some right-wing jackass using his medical background to try to give his nonsense credibility, while pandering to the ignorant conservative audience who probably ate this crap right up.
Ablow belongs on some small, hack conspiracy site peddling his outrageous nonsense. Instead, he’s featured on the largest cable news channel on television, Fox News. And that right there tells you the quality of the information that network provides.
