Fox News Reporter Says He Witnessed A Baltimore Shooting That Never Happened – Seriously

mike-tobin-foxRecently much of the nation’s attention has been focused on what’s been going on in Baltimore surrounding the tragic death of Freddie Gray, the six police officers who’ve now been indicted and the protests, rioting and looting that went on last week.

Naturally this means our nation’s media has been fixated on everything that’s been going on in the city. While some of the reporting has been decent, much of it has been pathetically embarrassing. The quality (or lack thereof to put it more accurately) of our national news media is never more exposed than during times like these.

Well, apparently trying to get a ‘scoop” relating to possibly another shooting involving a Baltimore police officer, Fox News reporter Mike Tobin fed information about what he supposedly saw happen, prompting Greta Van Susteren, a prominent Fox News personality, to send out the following tweets:

Moments later Tobin was calling into Fox News to detail the accounts of what he “saw” happen, as transcribed by Mother Jones:

“About 2:45 we saw a guy running from the cops right at the intersection of North and Pennsylvania where the epicenter of the unrest here. As he was running away, that officer drew his weapon and fired and struck the individual who was running away. He was a young black male and what we saw on the sidewalk as the crime scene unfolded over there, there was a revolver on the ground.”

Considering recent events, this is a fairly big story, right? Absolutely – if it were true.

Follow the reports from Fox News the Baltimore Police Department sent out the following tweets:

So, how could Tobin have “seen” this happen (as he clearly said in his report), when it never actually happened? And it wasn’t as if the information being reported by Fox News was vague – they went into some fairly intricate detail.

It’s just bizarre – and absolutely embarrassing. There really are more questions than answers because Fox News was reporting specific details about an event that never took place. Though it was clear that Greta Van Susteren was simply repeating what she was being told, which puts most of the blame on Tobin and those “on the scene” who were apparently just making stuff up as they went along.

But the real issue here is the reckless and irresponsible reporting considering the volatile conditions in Baltimore recently. In the wake of what’s gone on over the last week or so, for Tobin to have reported a “story” in such detail that wasn’t even true could have potentially ignited even more violence within the city.

And I think there needs to be more said about what Tobin really saw, why he said what he did and why he felt the need to “break” a story that wasn’t even true knowing that it could have potentially ignited even more chaos.

Not to sound all tin-foil-hatty, but is it worth considering whether the reporter actually reported what they saw but the police not wanting to risk inflaming the situation further released their denial for propaganda purposes?

I’m home sick this week and watched his live report. His mouth was saying one thing but his very expressive eyes were saying something else.
Fox had a guy on the ground and he reported what he saw, what he heard and what he was told by people in the crowd. Smith kept apologizing but at the same time recounted “facts” that are not in dispute, Black man with a gun, Black man down on the street and Black man being taken away. I think FN was covering for the city of Baltimore. I mean the people.
    I could be wrong.

In that article he said he saw the coo fire his gun and hit the guy in the back that was running away . He specifically said that .

I didn’t see that. What article?

No he did not. Tobin never said that. The girl that wanted to be interviewed by him is the one that was saying that. Tobin only said he HEARD a gunshot, and saw the guy fall down. He never said that he knew for a fact the cop shot him. In fact, he went out of his way to not say it.

Yes he did I watched the broadcast live and I also found a link and he clearly said what he saw and never mentioned anything about a witness telling him anything.

There are a lot of prominent attorneys including ultra liberal Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz that say the charges against the officers are bogus and were only filed by the black States Attorney to pacify the looters and rioters.Making a sham of our criminal justice system to appease the left. All these cops walk.

I’d be interested in seeing a link to that from a real news organization. I can’t seem to find one.
