While the vast majority of the people over at Fox News serve as nothing more than propagandists and cheerleaders for Donald Trump and the Republican Party, there are a few rare exceptions.
As most of Fox News continues to serve as nothing more than a version of state-run media for Trump, Smith hasn’t been shy when it comes to calling out the lies and embarrassing behavior of this “president” and his administration.
For instance, on Thursday when Smith ripped into Trump’s non-stop whining about the on-going investigations into whether or not his campaign colluded with Russia.
“There’s only one person who says this is fake news, this Russia investigation, and that’s the president,” Smith stated. “It’s not a matter that’s in dispute.”
The Fox News host was, of course, referring to Trump’s continued insistence that the Russia story is a “hoax,” despite the fact that the overwhelming consensus among U.S. intelligence agencies is that Russia did, in fact, interfere in the 2016 election for his benefit. Whether or not there was actual collusion has yet to be determined. However, it’s indisputable that Russia was actively trying to influence our election in Trump’s favor.
Yet despite all this evidence, the only person who continues to insist that all of this is “fake,” a “hoax” or a “witch hunt” is Trump, himself.
Then Smith said what many people, myself included, have said about the Russia scandal since the very beginning.
“Things that don’t make sense,” Smith said. “If you’ve done nothing, and you wonder if people around you have, things that are as illegal as conspiring with another government to change the course of human events in our nation, I mean, you would think what you would do is open the door and say, ‘Please, come find out anything that went wrong.’
“That is not what this White House is doing,” he added.
In other words, this is not how an innocent person behaves.
From the very beginning, I’ve said that the main reason why I absolutely believe Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia is his behavior. Donald Trump is not acting like an innocent person with nothing to hide. He’s acting like a guilty person who’s scared and is desperately trying to attack the credibility of those who are investigating him.
Over the last few months Trump hasn’t been trying to prove his innocence — he’s been trying to undermine the credibility of the investigators, U.S. intelligence agencies, the media, and practically anyone who says that Russia interfered in last year’s election. All the while, Trump hasn’t released his tax returns (as he promised he would) and still refuses to say a single negative thing about Russia or Vladimir Putin.
That’s really strange behavior from a man who’s proven time and time again that he’s more than willing to publicly attack and criticize practically anyone — even members of his own administration.
What Shep Smith said is what many of us have been saying this entire time, Donald Trump’s behavior is not that of someone who’s innocent. In fact, it’s a textbook example of a guilty person who’s terrified of people finding out the truth.
