GOP Strategist Spells Out Why Robert Mueller Subpoenaing Bannon Should Terrify Trump

In the brewing “war of racist scumbags” between Donald Trump and Steve Bannon, while this “president” might be the most powerful of the two, I’d caution anyone from dismissing Bannon — even after losing his radio show and position at Breitbart. While I’m not willing to go as far as to call him an intelligent person, I also don’t think he’s an idiot. He’s someone who I view as every bit the egomaniac that Trump is, which is why I can’t see him being “humbled” by his ouster from this administration, recent berating by Trump, and his rather humiliating fall from grace within the conservative media.

I’ve never met Bannon, but everything I do know about him leads me to believe that this is someone who’s not going to just walk away from all of this defeated without attempting to extract some sort of revenge against those he feels have wronged him.

That’s more or less what GOP strategist Rick Wilson said on Twitter Tuesday when he spelled out why the recent subpoena of one of Trump’s top campaign and administration strategists should terrify this “president”:

The real question is: What move does Bannon feel benefits him the most?

Part of me feels as if Bannon’s “long play” here is to undermine Trump and his family.

On the other hand, I think Bannon’s smart enough to know that his best bet is to lay low and avoid doing anything that brings about Trump’s wrath. Like many others before him, Bannon’s realizing firsthand that Trump’s cult is extremely brainwashed and loyal. They’ll turn on anyone and everyone who doesn’t tell them that Trump’s amazing, the Russia story is a hoax, and he’s going to go down as the “greatest president ever.”

That said, if someone was asking me right now what I think Bannon’s “plan” is, it’s to slowly undermine and screw over Trump. I think Bannon realizes that you can’t simply expose Trump for being awful or completely full of crap because his supporters simply don’t care. The only way Trump’s going to “fall” is to watch his support slowly erode away. If any supporters are going to turn against him, they have to make that decision for themselves.

I think Bannon’s going to try to put on the face of someone who respects Trump and thinks he’s doing a good job, but behind closed doors he’s going to work to undermine his “presidency” while exposing some internal facts about what’s gone on that Trump definitely doesn’t want made public. Bannon’s going to do his best to go after the people he feels slighted him, while trying to rebuild himself back into the self-professed “kingmaker” he feels he rightfully should be.

I guess only time will tell.
