In some rather alarming news, it was reported today that FBI and Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives officials, in conjunction with Homeland Security, raided a hostile anti-government group of Islamic radicals who had compiled a massive arsenal of weapons and ammunition. Dozens of military-style semi-automatic rifles such as AR-15’s, AK-47’s, as well as thousands of rounds of ammunition, were seized from a fortified compound. Law enforcement officials also found tactical gear such as military-style clothing and bulletproof body armor.
It’s also being reported that, upon looking into the online activity of this group, the individuals were frequent visitors to anti-U.S. government websites, conspiracy blogs, numerous ties to radical social media accounts and several extreme religious websites.
Unconfirmed sources indicate that authorities were tipped off after numerous reports came in from people in the area citing that they heard members of this group express a rather forceful belief that the American government is corrupt, dangerous and oppressive toward their religious beliefs and values. There were also allegedly numerous and open discussions by these individuals about the potential for a hostile and armed revolt against the United States government.
Apparently this group had been using a secluded, rural plot of land for weapons training; to conduct their meetings where they hoped no one would notice; and to “prepare” for, what many believe to be, a potential armed assault against the U.S. government. While there doesn’t seem to be any indication that a terrorist attack was imminent, it’s being reported that there’s indisputable evidence that this is a rabid anti-government group who had armed and trained themselves at least, in part, for a potential conflict with federal authorities over what they perceive to be unethical and immoral behavior by the United States.
Oh, wait, my mistake. Let me back up here for a moment to correct a couple of things.
My apologizes, there was actually no raid of any radical Islamic anti-government group — I made all of that up.
What I was actually doing was describing a typical right-wing, anti-government group like the many that exist within this country. Groups of people who are usually comprised of mostly white, Christian males; anti-government fanatics who stockpile large arsenals of weapons, ammunition and tactical gear. These groups also typically push radical, conspiracy-driven propaganda against the United States government. They’re also not shy when it comes to discussing and proudly placing their support behind the belief that an armed, deadly and bloody assault on the United States government isn’t “treason” — it’s “patriotic.” These are people who feverishly cling to a radical interpretation of their beliefs in either the Bible, the Constitution or both, often looking down upon and judging anyone who disagrees with their extreme views.
I wrote this specifically to show the hypocritical difference in how these two groups of people are viewed. While these radical, right-wing Christian males frequently and proudly boast about their hatred for our government, our president and their belief that a violent revolt against federal officials is “patriotic,” all while stockpiling weapons and ammunition — I can’t imagine the same people who support these white, conservative Christian males feeling the same way if they saw numerous groups of American citizens who just happened to be Muslim doing the exact same things and using nearly the exact same anti-Government rhetoric.
Just look at the whole Bundy bunch, the standoff a couple of years ago and that spectacle in Oregon back in January. While many conservatives defend these cretins, even some folks on Fox News, something tells me that their support wouldn’t have been there if Cliven Bundy’s last name was Abdallah and that group of men who occupied that federal building, or took up arms against BLM officials, were Muslims who opposed the federal government.
Though it is a testament to the hypocrisy of the right that, if you’re a white Christian male, it’s perfectly acceptable to stockpile weapons and ammunition while openly discussing your disdain for the federal government, the president, millions of Americans and your belief that violent standoffs against federal officials are “constitutionally allowed” and “patriotic.” However, if groups of American Muslim men were saying and doing the exact same things as these white, Christian males — then they’d call them radicals, terrorists and very likely want them arrested and thrown in Guantanamo Bay.
