Even though this story is heartbreaking and tragic on a scale unimaginable to most, there’s still some good nearly everyone who sees this can do to brighten the life of a young, eight-year-old severely burned girl, Sa’fyre Terry, who lost most of her family in a fire over two years ago. While those details are gut-wrenching by themselves, the facts of this story are actually much worse . You see, this poor girl didn’t lose her family in some sort of horrific accident. Her house was intentionally set on fire in May of 2013, killing her father and three siblings Layah (3), Michael (2) and Donavan (11 months). Her father, David Terry, died shielding her from the flames.
Sa’fyre, who was five at the time, was the only survivor – though she was forced to have her right hand and foot amputated, as well as being left badly scarred. She now lives with her aunt and uncle, though the case remains unsolved.
Well, this remarkable young girl has only one wish this Christmas: To fill her tree with Christmas cards from all over the world. And thanks to social media, and the goodness of people (yes, most of us are still genuinely good people despite what we usually hear in the news about our differences), that wish is coming true.
While some battle over the design of coffee cups, nativity scenes or over whether or not someone says “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays,” this little girl, who’s suffered through something unfathomable, couldn’t care less about those ultimately pointless squabbles on which so many people waste their time.
All this little girl wants is Christmas cards.
I’ve personally sent her one myself, as well as putting together this article to hopefully spread her message. I want her to get so many Christmas cards, she’ll be graduating college before she finishes reading all of them.
So, if you feel inclined to send a card to this courageous child, please send your card(s) to:
P.O. Box 6126
Schenectady, NY 12306
If you would like to follow the Facebook page that’s been setup for her, you can do so by following this link. And if you would like to donate to the family, there’s a fundraising campaign setup for that too at YouCaring.com. You can find the link to that fundraiser here.
While I understand not everyone reading this has the means to send money, or even a card, if only a few of those who read this article do – that makes it a success in my opinion. And if you can’t send money or a card, heck, just head over to her Facebook page and leave a post on her Wall in the form of a Christmas message.
Thank you to everyone who read this, shared this and took the time to let this little girl know how incredibly remarkable she is.
