In her short time in the Senate, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has skyrocketed to progressive/liberal superstardom. It’s ironic that during a time where clowns like Ted Cruz or Rand Paul are “stars” among the Republican party, Democrats have one of the most genuine, honest and rational politicians I think I’ve ever seen.
Naturally, there’s been a huge push by quite a few people on the left who want her to run for president – and I can see why some would want that. I am as big a fan of Warren as anyone and I think she has the power to do amazing things for this country…
In the Senate.
You see, Warren isn’t running for president in 2016 – period.
Now I know that’s not what a lot of liberals want to hear, but she’s not running. People can debate about her possibly running all they want, trying to twist things around in an attempt to orchestrate some situation where she might run, but she’s not going to run for president.
Recently she’s made appearances on The Daily Show and Real Time with Bill Maher where she was asked, as she always is, if she’s running for president… and she continued to say, emphatically, she’s not going to run. Hell, Maher basically offered her $1 million to run and she didn’t even hesitate when she told him no. In fact, I almost get the sense from her that she’s getting sick and tired of being asked.
After all, how many times does she need to say “No, I’m not running for president” before people will stop bugging her about it? Even the nicest and most polite people have their limits.
Oh, and stop with the Bernie Sanders stuff too. I love Bernie, but he’s never going to become president. If you really, honestly believe deep in your heart that Sanders has a chance at becoming president, you really need to reassess everything you think you know about politics.
But back to Warren: Has it ever occurred to some of these people who continue to borderline harass her about running that maybe she just flat-out doesn’t want to be president? Just because someone might make a good president (I personally believe her skills are best suited for the Senate), or people want them to run, doesn’t mean they want to be President of the United States.
I’ve toyed with running for public office one day, but I would never – ever – want to be the president. In my opinion, that seems like one of the most miserable jobs a person could possibly have. Your entire life is controlled, scrutinized and attacked constantly. Hell, President Obama can’t even spend a few hours golfing without it being a massive story on Fox News. And heaven forbid he dares take a vacation – ever.
It takes a certain kind of person to want to be president, and I just don’t think Warren is that type of person – and that’s a good thing. In fact, that’s part of what makes her special. She’s not a politician looking to push her career to its highest point, she’s a warrior fighting for the American people.
So, while I completely understand why there are so many people who would like to see her run, I’ll say what she’s been saying for years – she’s not going to run for president.
