Early Friday morning, as he does just about every morning, Donald Trump went on a Twitter tantrum ranting and raving about whatever he saw while obsessively watching cable news.
As expected, James Comey’s upcoming book drew this “president’s” ire. He called the former FBI director a “slime ball,” “liar,” and said he should be prosecuted for supposedly “leaking” classified information.
Then a “funny” thing happened a few hours later — Trump pardoned Scooter Libby.
For those of you who may have forgotten, Libby, who was Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff at the time, was found guilty of lying to the FBI about his role in leaking the name of former covert CIA employee Valerie Plame.
In other words, he leaked classified information then lied about it… and Trump just pardoned him on the very same day he called for Comey to be prosecuted for — wait for it — being a supposed “leaker” and a “liar.”
Say it with me folks, you can’t make this stuff up.
Well, this ridiculousness wasn’t missed by CNN’s Jake Tapper. He took to this “president’s” favorite social media platform to call out Trump’s hypocrisy for his attack on Comey and pardon of Libby:
Calling @Comey a “proven LEAKER & LIAR” while you’re about to pardon Scooter Libby, who leaked the identity of a covert CIA employee and was convicted for lying about it to the FBI — well, that’s quite a thing.

This type of hypocrisy from Trump isn’t anything new. In fact, just a few months ago Tapper slammed this “president” for condemning opponents of his who were accused of some sort of sexual misconduct, such as Al Franken, while defending his friends and political allies such as serial sexual abuser Bill O’Reilly or failed Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore:
It would seem, here’s the pattern we’ve been able to discern, if you’re an opponent, he [Trump] believes the charges [of sexual misconduct], and if you’re a friend, he stands by you.
As I’m sure most everyone reading this already knows, Trump believes he, and everyone he feels is on his “side,” gets to live by a different set of rules as everyone else. If you’re an opponent accused of something negative, then it’s “100 percent true and a disgrace.” Yet if you’re an ally of Trump, then any negative allegation is “fake news” and part of some “conspiracy against” that person.
It really is sad that there are tens of millions of people in this country who either don’t see how much of a fraud and con artist Trump is, or they just don’t care. His behavior is as predicable as it is sad and pathetic.
But kudos to Jake Tapper for, once again, calling out the unprecedented hypocrisy of Donald Trump and the people who support this joke of a “president.”
