Despite Donald Trump’s pathetic attempt to blame the most recent chemical attack launched by Syrian Dictator Bashar al Assad on Barack Obama (yes, that really happened), this happened more than a year into his “presidency,” so any blame anyone might place on the United States for this act falls squarely on his shoulders.
Though you don’t have to take my word on that. Simply ask Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who slammed Trump on Sunday for “emboldening” Assad by his recent talk of pulling U.S. troops out of Syria.
“President Trump last week signaled to the world that the United States would prematurely withdraw from Syria,” McCain said in a statement. “Bashar Assad and his Russian and Iranian backers have heard him, and emboldened by American inaction, Assad has reportedly launched another chemical attack against innocent men, women and children, this time in Douma.”
While I know it’s popular for Trump and his supporters to yell “Obama!” or “Clinton!” whenever they’re trying to deflect away from one of his many failures or lies, it’s absolutely absurd to try to blame this on Obama. Seeing as we’re over one-fourth of the way into his “presidency” and, after he already ordered a missile attack last year following a previous chemical attack, as well as being on the heels of his recent rhetoric where he’s declared his intent to remove U.S. troops from Syria, this is entirely on him.
I might disagree with McCain on most things, but I do agree with him that the timing of this attack isn’t a coincidence. In fact, I don’t think that two chemical weapons attacks within a year of one another, both since Trump’s been in office, are a coincidence, either. The longer this nation continues to be led by an unhinged, incompetent moron who has absolutely no idea what he’s doing, the more our enemies are going to feel, as McCain said on Sunday, “emboldened” to act out knowing full well that we’re being led by a weak, inept fool who has absolutely no idea what he’s doing.
This is why I’ve called Trump our nation’s top national security threat.
Not only do our allies no longer trust us, but our enemies don’t fear us, either. That’s an extremely dangerous combination facing the United States. As I’ve said before, this stopped being about Democrat vs. Republican a long time ago. This is about protecting this nation from someone who has no business being “president.” A man who’s so completely unqualified for the job that every single day he’s called “president” is a gift to those who’d love nothing more than to see this nation crumble.
