While I’ve typically always disagreed with Republicans most of my life, I’ve never seen the type of ridiculousness that I’ve seen the last few years. Who knew electing our first African American president would cause so many conservatives to just snap?
Because that’s essentially what they’ve done. Facts have become opinions and what they want to believe matters more than actual reality.
President Obama, according to Republicans, has somehow managed to be a combination of some power hungry dictator king socialist communist Marxist racist radical Christian Muslim. He’s also managed to manipulate the IRS, coordinate with the Muslim Brotherhood, fake birth certificates, manufacture false jobs numbers and somehow managed to cause our economic crash before he ever became president.
Oh, and he’s also been weak.
At this point, I’ve forgotten more reasons Republicans have tried to come up with to impeach him than I can actually remember.
It’s all honestly become completely comical. Like a spoiled child throwing a hissy fit because they didn’t get their way.
And this ridiculousness is what Jon Stewart targeted last night when he essentially called much of this ongoing Republican propaganda “bullsh*t.”
He tore into their numerous calls for Obama’s impeachment while never once actually following through with it.
And why haven’t they followed through with it? Because polling numbers say that by doing so it might galvanize liberal voters and alienate Republican candidates heading into this year’s midterm elections.
“That’s how you know all this talk of tyranny is bullsh*t,” he said. “When your main concern when you’re deposing a tyrant is how it will affect your party’s chances in the upcoming midterm elections, that’s not tyranny.”
He also had a few choice words for Sarah Palin.
“If I may, it appears ex-Governor Palin has finally finished with mangling the English language, and has moved on to making Spanish incomprehensible,” Stewart continued. “She’s like a serial killer of language. Or whatever the opposite of a Rosetta Stone is.”
Finally he went after the pointless lawsuit Boehner has filed against the Obama administration.
Stewart said mockingly, “Let me get this straight: the GOP is going to take down our dictator-in-chief with a civil suit accusing him of not properly executing a law they themselves have tried more than 50 times to partly or completely repeal.”
As usual, Jon Stewart hits a home run in exposing hypocrisy and stupidity.
The problem is conservatives will never hear any of this. And even if they do, they don’t believe it. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had debates with conservatives where their arguments weren’t just slightly wrong – they weren’t even based on reality.
They’ve created the perfect information bubble where all they believe is what’s inside of it (the conservative media) and anything outside of it is nothing but liberal lies and propaganda.
It’s a combination that makes it almost impossible to get these people to believe anything.
But no matter what they believe, or don’t believe, it doesn’t matter. Because that’s the great thing about reality, it’s real whether they want to believe in it or not.
