Take for instance Stewart’s basically flawless hammering of Brian Kilmeade’s comments on Fox News criticizing the beard of Bowe Bergdhal’s dad, who grew it in support of his son who was a POW in Afghanistan. Kilmeade pathetically suggested that Bergdhal’s father looks “like a member of the Taliban” due to his beard.
“First of all, who the f*ck are you to judge what a guy does if he thinks it might help him get his son back?” Stewart asked. “And I don’t want to complicate your hatred of facial hair there, friend, but my guess is if you gave Bob Bergdahl a bandana and a duck, you’d like him just f*cking fine.”
Stewart was obviously alluding to the fact that Fox News and most of the conservatives who watch the network are huge fans of the bearded Robertson family made famous by their show Duck Dynasty.
He also mocked conservatives for suggesting that “we don’t negotiate with terrorists.”
“What are you talking about? We always negotiate with terrorists,” Stewart said. “Saying we don’t negotiate with terrorists is our opening negotiation: ‘We are not negotiating with you terrorists … and your response is?’”
Possibly the most infamous example where we “negotiated with terrorists” came when conservative icon Ronald Reagan did so during that little scandal in the 80’s called Iran-Contra.
Not only did we negotiate with terrorists then, we sold weapons to Iran. Can you imagine if President Obama did that? Holy cow.
But Stewart is absolutely right. Kilmeade was quick to make his pathetic comment bashing the beard Bergdahl’s father grew in support of his son, but if they dressed him in a Duck Dynasty shirt, threw a bandana on him and sat him in a duck blind in Louisiana they’d absolutely love him.
Then again, when it comes to disgusting comments made by members of the media to pander to partisan politics, Fox News is king.
