In one of the most unique segments I’ve ever seen on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart managed to hilariously mock Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee – without saying a single word. All he did was comically react in various ways to several clips of Huckabee saying all sorts of absurd and ridiculous things.
Of course, this all stems from recent controversial comments from Huckabee where he evoked ovens used by the Nazis in reference to President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.
“It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians. By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven,” Huckabee said.
“This is the most idiotic thing, this Iran deal. It should be rejected by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress and by the American people. I read the whole deal. We gave away the whole store. It’s got to be stopped,” he continued.
These comments were so offensive that even Republicans like Jeb Bush came out publicly to condemn them. Heck, even the Israeli ambassador condemned Huckabee’s comments.
“These are not words that I would use or that I think are appropriate,” Ambassador Ron Dermer said.
“We don’t in any way impugn the motives of the people who are doing this deal,” Dermer continued. “I think it’s important to conduct this debate in a way that’s befitting of the alliance between our two countries.”
Then to make matters worse, Huckabee doubled-down on his offensive comments during an interview on Fox News, refusing to apologize. During one of these segments he even brought up the fact that he’s been to Auschwitz, seemingly trying to suggest that his trip there justifies what he said.
When you think about it, Huckabee might be one of the most offensive members of the Republican party. While Donald Trump has been getting most of the negative headlines lately, Huckabee’s the one who has:
- Said he wishes he could have showered with girls in high school to mock transgender people.
- Said he would call down fire from God to wipe “false prophets” off the Earth.
- Defended a child molester.
- Claimed Americans don’t have to follow “ungodly” laws.
And we can’t forget the hissy fit he threw following the Supreme Court’s ruling overturning same-sex marriage bans. He basically called for the nullification and disbandment of our third branch of government.
But the segment from Stewart was brilliant in its simplicity. He essentially mocked Huckabee by doing nothing more than reacting to the idiocy that often flows from the presidential candidate’s mouth. When you’re dealing with someone as asinine as Mike Huckabee, sometimes it’s best to just sit back and let that person showcase what a fool they really are.
