The conservative media, in particular Fox News, has masterminded this scheme where they perpetuate the idea that they’re the only sources for “truth,” and any other media entity or public figure that might call out their nonsense is all a part of a conspiracy against that “truth.” It’s textbook cult-like indoctrination; you get people to believe you’re the only beacon for honesty, then attack anyone who calls you out for being full of crap.
So, it’s no real surprise that Fox News (and the conservative media in general) aren’t the biggest fans of Jon Stewart. In fact, I’m sure many over at America’s most watched conservative entertainment network are thrilled that his last day hosting The Daily Show is this Thursday.
Well, being that this is Stewart’s last week, it seems he felt the need to take a couple of epic parting shots at Fox News in what was easily one of his most brutal takedowns of the network he’s ever done.
He started out by playing clips where some on Fox News called him a “tool” of the Obama administration, literally saying he’s nothing but a “propagandist” for President Obama.
“One thing I saw in that whole report there is they didn’t seem to support their assertions with, uh – evidence,” Stewart quipped.
Then, in true Stewart fashion, he played various clips throughout the years of several Fox News personalities pointing out times The Daily Show host had gone after the Obama administration, with many of these Fox News hosts suggesting that because Stewart attacked the president for whatever reason, that was “proof” that Obama was a failure.
Next he went on to point out how Fox News president Roger Ailes had written specifically to George W. Bush during his presidency advising him how he should discuss terrorism and how Sean Hannity literally took advice from a Republican strategist (live on air no less) on the best way to fear-monger against the Affordable Care Act by calling the public option the “government option” – because that scared people more.
“I’m just playing around with you guys,” Stewart said. “Your hypocrisy isn’t a bug in the Fox model; it’s the feature. Your job is to discredit any source of criticism that might hurt the conservative brand by angrily holding them to standards you yourselves jettison in your news network’s mission statement.”
“My hunch is, this show’s been harder on the Obama administration and this president per capita than you ever were in your eight years of Bush fingerb*nging,” he continued.
But of course, as Stewart said, they’ll probably never get around to verifying that since they never got back with him to address the “50 Fox lies in 6 seconds” he ran during a segment a few months ago.
“How does that motherf*cking taste? Adios motherf*ckers!,” Stewart said before being “reminded” that he still has three more shows to do.
In a way, the entire segment (and show for that matter) was extremely bittersweet. While it was a great segment in an overall fantastic episode of The Daily Show, reality then sets in that Stewart’s run as host is quickly coming to an end. And while Trevor Noah may end up being a fantastic host – no one will ever be able to truly replace Stewart.
