Limbaugh and Other Conservatives Flip Out After CBS Announces Stephen Colbert Will Replace David Letterman

colbert-letterman-limbaughSoon after David Letterman announced he was going to retire and I read the first reports that CBS wanted Stephen Colbert to replace him, I knew it was going to happen.  Unless Colbert was insane (and I knew that he wasn’t) there was no way he would turn down that gig.

I also knew if he were to be given the job, conservatives would lose their minds.

Which is basically what’s happened.

Rush Limbaugh said that, “CBS has just declared war on the heartland of America.”  Honestly, I don’t even know what that means.  Letterman poked fun at both political parties, and every president who sat in the White House, but he’s not someone I would call a friend to conservatives.

So his comment honestly made no sense.  Then again, most of what Limbaugh says doesn’t make any sense.

But it wasn’t just him – several conservative friends I know had “brilliant” opinions on the matter.  One of my more right-wing friends told me that this proves that “liberals own the media and are furthering their grip to brainwash Americans with their lies.”

This from someone who honestly believes Fox News is “fair and balanced.”  No, seriously, he doesn’t believe that Fox News has any kind of bias at all.

I’ve run across several other conservatives who’ve made little snide remarks about the decision.  One comment I saw on an article announcing the story said, “One liberal scum to replace another liberal scum on the liberal scum network CBS.”

It never occurs to these people that maybe the reason why so much news seems “liberally biased” is because their side is completely full of crap?  It’s the most common method of an entity that’s trying to brainwash people.  First you tell those you wish to brainwash that only “select” information sources are to be trusted (Fox News for example).  Then you convince those who you’re trying to brainwash that any other source which contradicts what their sources are saying are being biased against their cause.  Basically, any information that proves their propaganda false is “part of the conspiracy against us and the truth.”

It’s what conservatives do best.  If it’s not Fox News, it’s liberally biased propaganda.  So liberals say science proves evolution and climate change?  Oh, sure that’s what they want you to think.  When facts aren’t convenient to your propaganda, attacks the facts.

But the conservative reaction to Colbert taking over for Letterman was predictable and pathetic.  They hate the thought of someone liberals admire having a bigger stage with which to mock their ridiculousness.  I am really curious though, will Bill O’Reilly finally have the guts to take an interview with Colbert?

I guess only time will tell.

Sad thing is, I doubt he’ll be able to use the same “character” from The Colbert Report on CBS.

The liberal media is only as liberal as the corporations that own it. Rush needs to go back under his rock. He has his audience!

I love Stephen Colbert, but I don’t think it’s going to work. Each shows format is completely different.

Colbert will be leaving his Colbert Report character behind when he moves to CBS. When you look at his resume, he is so much more than his “Report” persona. He has been a writer for SNL, a Second City actor, award show host, voice actor for animated films, a decent singer, etc., etc… The conservatives are just looking foolish and out of touch as they lose their minds over this.

You’re right. Colbert would be a fool to try to bring any bias into the show and CBS would definitely be watching. He is going to do what he does best… expose the truth with humor. It’s not Colbert they’re worried about, it’s the truth.

Who’d want to see Bill O’Reilly on the Late Show anyway? That boring crap is what I DON’T watch on his show.

This makes me sooooo happy. Everytime those clowns wig out, it makes me sooooo happy. They are such an unhappy bunch. They laugh at other people’s misfortune openly and even want to throw gasoline on a fire, but hate it when we rejoice at the good things in this country getting better. They never look at improving things, but taking it backwards. They use fear and propaganda to incite violence and hatred. At the end of the day they are seriously in need of lightening it up.

Abusers use the same tactics. The thing is, the right wingers self-isolate themselves.

One sad thing is that we will all miss the Colbert Report. I would love to see him doing both jobs.

YES … I thought the same thing when I first heard the news!

I wish he’d just take Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, D.F.A. to the new show with him and do it on a bigger scale, desk and all. Damn i love that desk, the coolest desk i’ve ever seen. Too bad he raffled it off.

forward progressive why are there always such conservative adds on your site

What’s funny is that some of his viewers believe he IS the conservative that he portrays. Lol.

    1) O’Reilly has been interviewed by Colbert
    2) You conservative friend who thinks that FOX News is “fair and balanced” is clearly unbalanced and in need of professional help.
    3) Limbaugh, whose fortunes appear to be falling, needs Colbert the character as a foil … without him Rush is just another rich, obese, drug addled, bloviating serial bridegroom.

And this especially must be a slap in the face to those conservatives that started the #cancelcolbert hashtag. What I found especially hilarious about that Twitter campaign against Colbert is that CNN actually took a break from their 24/7 coverage on the Malaysian flight, to cover it as serious news. Anyway, It must suck to be pissed off all the time and for ridiculously stupid reasons.

I believe that Obamacare covers any aneurysms conservatives might experience from this Colbert career change. [If they’ve signed up, that is.]
