Marco Rubio: The United States is Governed by God, Not the Constitution (Video)

marco-rubio-gods-lawWhile most of the attention this election cycle has been given to presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson, several others such as Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have slowly been inching their way up the polls, solidifying themselves as viable Republican candidates.

Well, one of those candidates, Rubio, recently professed his belief that the United States is governed by “God’s rules,” not the Constitution:

“We are clearly called, in the Bible, to adhere to our civil authorities, but that conflicts with also a requirement to adhere to God’s rules. When those two come in conflict, God’s rules always win. In essence, if we are ever ordered by a government authority to personally violate and sin, violate God’s law and sin, if we’re ordered to stop preaching the gospel, if we’re ordered to perform a same-sex marriage as someone presiding over it, we are called to ignore that. We cannot abide by that because government is compelling us to sin.”

In other words, he believes that any Constitutional right given to Americans that he thinks goes against “God’s rule” should be ignored – because “God’s rule” supersedes Constitutional law.

While that sort of rhetoric isn’t exactly new among Republicans, it’s still extremely dangerous. The United States isn’t (and has never been) a theocracy, but that’s exactly what conservatives like Rubio want to turn it into. They want a nation that ignores our First Amendment rights to freedom of religion in order to force millions of Americans to adhere to religious dogma that they don’t believe in.

I think it’s important to point out that this isn’t just Marco Rubio pandering to evangelicals for support. He’s a Republican who doesn’t even support abortion in instances of rape. He honestly believes that if a woman is impregnated following a brutal and violent sexual assault, that she should instantly lose the right to have control over her own body.

It’s rhetoric like Rubio’s that prompted me to declare that any politician trying to interject religion into our government should be disqualified from running for office. Our First Amendment explicitly states that Americans have the freedom of religion. This means that any politician who’s trying to force their views on others is instantly trying to infringe upon our rights as Americans, thus is not acting in good faith of the oath they took to adhere to our Constitutional law. Therefore, I don’t believe they should be allowed to hold public office. That’s obviously my personal opinion, but I believe it stands on solid ground.

This is why I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for progressives and liberals to get out and vote in large numbers next November. We can’t let Republicans win the White House in 2016. If we do, not only will that essentially give the GOP power over the Supreme Court for the next 20-30 years, but Republicans will undo all the progress we’ve made over the last few years – potentially setting progressives back decades.

We absolutely cannot allow that to happen.

Before prayer was taken out of school in the 60’s, we had Christian values. Ever since, we as a nation and world have been turning further and further away from God. Only our Lord Jesus can save us. When we turn away from Him, He removes that umbrella of protection. It’s in His Word, The Holy Bible. We need to turn back to God.

You need to turn back into that hole you crawled out of

My family and I are Jewish. If a teacher at my son’s school started proselytizing New Testament, I can promise you, by the time I was done with that teacher in court, he’d be out in front of Dunkin Donuts with a cup.

Keep your Bronze-Age mummery to yourself and away from people who regard it as it should be regarded: mythology.

““I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature. The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his Father, in the womb of a virgin will be classified with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter.”

So can we admit Evolution is real yet? Also, we do all realize that religion is for kids. And that no one knows why we are here, who created it all, or what happens when we die. Id consider Judaism I think, if it were not for ISrael and the genocide of the Palestinians they are running. I already send them too much of my tax money and all they do is continue destabilizing the world.

“Also, we do all realize that religion is for kids”

Not THIS kid.The God-and-Jesus story sounded like total hooey to me when I first heard it at age 6. It STILL sounds like total hooey to me at age 66. Who falls for this crap?

I love the ancient Egyptian religion as it was the entire government. I think I see a trend historically. The followers need leaders. You know the Mormons decided that after Jesus rose he floated in a giant pink bubble to the USA to proselytize the Native Americans and plant the tablets for Joseph Smith, right? Also, The Jefferson Bible is given to all members of congress. It removes all of the magic of Jesus and just focuses on his moral and ethical teachings. And so, its really about that evolutionary teaching for the times or at least that is the only good set of things I can find in any of it.

Clearly for Marco Rubio, not so much. He is the best kid in Sunday school. For him, Jesus worked for bankers and Ceaser as a man boy slave fool dancer. I wish more of our leaders thought and talked like Tomas J. Instead we get a scientist doctor who believes dinosaurs were in ancient Romans back yards tied up for their masters.

You need to go ride a crucifix dildoe. And take your religion with you. Religion has nothing to do with Government in the USA. If you want a nice religious state, check Iran or ISrael. Go move there.

    • Jim Valley

      This is nonsense.

    • mdpbl

Which Xtian values are you talking about?

  • jeefray

It’s like stupidity crack that old time religion.

    Dear Marco,

If the United States is actually governed by God, it would actually say so in the Constitution, because that’s what the constitution does; it defines how the country is governed and what the powers of government are. If the country is governed by a god, Americans need neither a constitution, nor senators. In short, you would not have a job.

    • Billions of Guns Misfiring

Well, you see, if he can get the non taxed televangelists money then he can buy more tv commercials. And thus religion ruins the government as badly as corporations.

    • Jim Valley

      Marco is an ignorant fool.

      • Gary Menten

I don’t think he’s all that big a fool. I think he’s a clever and slimy little charlatan who knows that most of the GOP are fools and how to fool them.

      • Jim Valley

The fact that we can see through him so easily is where the fool part comes in.

      • Gary Menten

I think where it comes in is that the GOTP is too stupid to see through him.

      • Kim Qitqat Brechtel

Sadly the religious right trash are too stupid to see it. Likecjoy teets above!

  • Billions of Guns Misfiring

This is the exact reason the GOP is dying. And he is also probably their most competitive candidate. Young stupid and full of vinegar and a big giant god complex. I hope they put him up and he loses to Hillary. Or Trump will do too.

  • Billions of Guns Misfiring

American Politicians are ruining American Religions. They should be called on to stop talking about religion, by religious leaders and the general public.

This Joker is only qualified to be a candidate for this….

Lobotomy is a neurosurgical procedure, a form of psychosurgery, also known as a leukotomy or leucotomy. It consists of cutting or scraping away most of the connections to and from the prefrontal cortex, the anterior part of the frontal lobes of the brain.

    • TransplantedTexan

Ben Carson could do the procedure!!! It’s a win-win!!

  • Jim Valley

This worthless child does not deserve to be president. Neither do any of the other republiclowns in the race.

  • TransplantedTexan

Hey Marco, no one is compelling you to marry a man, have an abortion, have sex outside marriage or any other religious objection you may have. People have freely, and I repeat and emphasize FREELY, exercised their religion for over 200 years in this country without anyone needing to impose their beliefs on the rest of us. Some have tried, but thankfully, none have prevailed. Go sit down and shut up. We don’t need your kind of theocratic leadership.

  • rejectrepublicanlies

He and Cruz represent an imminent danger to the Constitution and our secular government. We are not a Christian caliphate.

  • rejectrepublicanlies

Christofascists. They will face an uprising of Biblical proportions if they ever try to rule in such an unlawful fashion.

  • Jim Manzi

Funny how republicans profess God but don’t know how to follow Jesus. All first world countries SHOULD treat their citizens better than dogs! Corporate greed/control over congress is the key problem. When you care more about money than humanity your are SATAN not Jesus!

The reason this election matters so much is because the establishment is out of control! Take for instance the healthcare industry which has price fixed/gouged us to death with medical costs and in return given us lousy healthcare!

    Search for yourselves:

The problem with the corporations regulating congress(oligarchy not democracy) is that they make the rules/laws for themselves via their congressional puppets. This means they can force anything upon us and set the prices of anything as high as they want! They can be as greedy as they want to be! We are paying the most compared to every other country in the world for the worst overall healthcare! This is just one symptom of a very greedy out of control establishment / oligarchy / corporate control of congress!

Vote for someone who is Anti-Establishment or see your country get more and more desperate with more and more people going to prison as a symptom of the greedy oligarchy!!

Amazes me how many Non Christians think they can speak for Christians. Article is biased and totally ignorant …. Not worth any other comment….
