It’s no secret that Republicans have based a large part of their party’s platform on being against the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. Before it was even law, millions of dollars were being spent by various conservative groups to slander and sabotage the bill.
After all these years of bashing the health care law, the millions of dollars spent trying to slander it and the politicians who owe a large part of their success to opposing the law, Republicans have no choice but to continue to try to sabotage, lie and oppose Obamacare.
They don’t have any choice.
Even after over 7 million people signed up for Obamacare through the marketplace, the only option Republicans had following that news was to essentially say the numbers were a lie. And that’s exactly what most of them did.
Here’s a “bold” prediction: Unless the news about Obamacare is bad, Republicans will always say it’s a lie.
It won’t matter what level of success the law reaches, Republicans will never be able to support the law. They simply can’t. They’ve spent so much time and money slandering the law, lying about the law, that if they were to ever admit that it was working even in the slightest – they would expose themselves as complete frauds.
After years and years of lying about law, if it reaches certain levels of success and none of their horror stories come true, it proves without a doubt that they were completely full of crap. They can’t simply say, “Well, we were wrong and Obama was right.”
Forget the law working (as it has so far), they absolutely cannot praise President Obama in any way. Even on issues outside of the health care law, if a Republicans is seen working with or complimenting President Obama, they’re shunned and attacked by their own party.
So even if polls one day show over 60% of Americans support the law, millions of Americans continue to gain access to health care thanks to the law and the economy shows to be in no way negatively impacted by the law – Republicans will still never admit the law is working or praise it in any way.
Again, they can’t.
They’ve done such a masterful job at convincing conservative voters of just how “terrible” the law is with their lies that their only choice is to double down on those lies, create new ones and continue to perpetuate the idea that all positive news about the law is a lie.
Which is exactly what they’ll do. Because after they’ve lied as much as they have about something, for as long as they have, their only choice is to keep lying. To do otherwise would require them to admit that they’re liars and to expose themselves as the frauds that they are.
