I have absolutely no idea what the Obamas plan on doing after they leave the White House in a few months, but I sincerely hope they remain politically active — especially the First Lady. While her husband has been an incredible president, she’s cemented herself as one of the most popular and admired women in the world. In fact, I don’t think she gets nearly enough credit for being as influential as she has been.
I doubt she will do it, but I would love to see her run for office one day. Maybe not necessarily the White House (though I think she would be an excellent president), but at least Congress. I personally think this country would do great with a second “Senator Obama” fighting for us in the United States Senate.
A great example of what I mean came during a campaign speech for Hillary Clinton at George Mason University. She completely nullified any importance some might have placed on what Donald Trump and those who support him think about President Obama’s legacy and whether or not he’s an American citizen.
“People had all kinds of questions about what kind of President Barack would be. Things like, ‘Does he understand us?’ ‘Will he protect us?'” Michelle said. “Then, of course, there were those who continued to question for the past eight years up through this very day whether my husband was even born in this country. Well, during his time in office, I think Barack has answered those questions with the example he set by going high when they go low and he answered those questions with progress we’ve achieved together.”
She then took several not-so-subtle jabs at Donald Trump.
“We need someone who is compassionate,” Michelle stated. “Someone who is unifying. Someone who will be a role model for our kids. Someone who is not just in this for themselves but for the good of this country. See, at the end of the day, as I’ve said before, the presidency doesn’t change who you are. It reveals who you are.”
“So if a candidate is erratic and threatening, if a candidate traffics in prejudice, fears, and lies on the trail, if a candidate has no clear plans to implement their goals, if they disrespect their fellow citizens including folks who made extraordinary sacrifices for our country, let me tell you, that is who they are,” she added.
Like I said, Michelle Obama doesn’t get the respect she deserves. Her husband is one hell of a speaker, but she might actually be even better.
In this speech she proudly stated that it doesn’t matter what Trump or one of his deplorable supporters thinks of her husband or his citizenship because his record speaks louder than their vile, racist words. She made it clear that Trump is exactly who he seems to be, which is someone who’s inept and woefully unqualified to be President of the United States.
