Mike Huckabee’s Support of Sexual Predators Isn’t Just Limited to His Defense of Josh Duggar

mike huckabeeBy now most people have heard about the horrific allegations surrounding well-known anti-gay bigot Josh Duggar, one of the “stars” of the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting. There’s not really a whole lot of gray area to this. And, no, I’m not buying this nonsense that, “Well he was only 14, so he didn’t know any better.” While you’re not an adult at 14, you should be readily aware that you shouldn’t engage in inappropriate contact with 4-12 year old family members.

There’s absolutely no excuse for that – none. The fact that some people are trying to rationalize all of this is mind-boggling, bizarre, and downright sick.

Well, in a move that even caught me a little off guard, 2016 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee outrageously defended Duggar’s behavior:

“Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, ‘inexcusable,’ but that doesn’t mean ‘unforgivable.’ He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities. No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story. Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things.”

Actually, his parents hid and concealed his behavior for around a year before ever doing something about it. Then it was only after the story broke publicly did Josh confess publicly to what he had done. This after years and years of anti-gay bigotry and accusing homosexuals of being dangerous to children.

But the fact that Huckabee actually tried to defend his disgusting behavior is appalling. Anyone coming to his defense should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

The thing is, when it comes to Huckabee, Josh Duggar isn’t the first sexual predator with which he doesn’t seem to have a problem. Perhaps you might recall Huckabee bringing “patriot and friend” Ted Nugent onto his Fox News show, where he ended up playing guitar alongside a self-admitted sexual predator.

Here’s an image via Fox News of that little event:

Not only that, but Nugent is a racist and a sexist as well.

So, the question is, what would it take for someone like Huckabee to openly condemn someone? He doesn’t seem to have an issue with racists, sexists or molesters – in fact, the only group of people you really hear him speaking negatively about are homosexuals. Oh, and of course he spoke down on President Obama as well – for letting his daughters listen to Beyonce.

And let’s not forget the fact that Huckabee isn’t the only one. Like I said earlier, quite a lot of conservatives I’ve come across have tried to dismiss Duggar’s behavior because he was only a teenager at the time. That’s just not an excuse. At 14 years old, he knew exactly what he was doing. There’s a big difference between youthful curiosity and depraved, disturbing behavior – and Duggar’s actions clearly fall in the latter category.

And to think, this is a family who’s often spoke out on the immorality of homosexuality and advocated against gay rights, with one of their positions being that gays are “harmful” to children. The hypocrisy is absolutely astounding and sick.

But the way I look at it is, the moment you defend a molester, you lose the right to call yourself a Christian.

I absolutely despise and am deeply offended by the age old excuse of “oh, he was just a stupid boy/boys will be boys.” It’s dumb and it needs to stop. I was a teenaged boy, and I never molested, or sexually assaulted the women around me, nor did ANY of the other teenaged boys I was friends with. Because that’s not what decent human beings do. What this guy did was disgusting, but honestly I’m more disgusted by the society that’s trying to let him off the hook.

I would be willing to bet money that if anyone that says that had a child they loved molested by a 14 year old boy they would not let the issue go and say “well, he’s just a boy and curiosity is normal.” I have a teenage son and if he ever harmed someone I wouldn’t argue that he’s just a boy. Because I love him I would want him to get real help, not send him to a family friend for a little while.

Huckabee has more blood on his hands than Hillary does. This is why religious fanatics have no place in politics. Unthinkable.

I find Hucklebee’s reaction disappointing because he responds like a upstanding, Christian family is being wrongfully attacked for a harmless, youthful indiscretion. Harm was done. He manages to fully ignore the harm suffered by the girls he molested. The closest he comes is by pretending it is better for the victims for all to ignore this happened. I don’t want to know the names of the girls. I don’t want to read their stories of what happened and how they have managed since then. But victims do not benefit from keeping the abuse secret. The only one that benefits from this being swept back under the rug is Josh Duggar. In what way is it helpful for the victims to hear “he was just a boy that made a mistake and it shouldn’t impact his life”? Their lives were impacted and Josh had to work on houses and get a stern talking to. Hucklebee isn’t supporting the family. He’s supporting the molester and the parents that managed to hide the abuse for years (coincidently during times the father was involved in politics and then began the rise to fame that got them their own TV show.) He doesn’t express support for the victims.

Interesting that they are saying that Josh Duggar confessed to molesting
the young girls 12 years ago. Not true, though that may have been when
he was first discovered. He was in fact charged 9 years ago, when he was
    18. It sounds a little more innocent if he was 14 or 15, than when he
was 18. The police report has been expunged as of this week…

In point of fact, Huck was also pretty strong defending Phil Robinson, another man with a deep interest in underage women. (Won’t even mention his racism and homophobia).
