Mike Huckabee: Obama Is Stomping On Christians

mike huckabee 1Mike Huckabee appeared on “AFA Today” to chat about his book, Guns, Gravy, Garden Gnomes, and Grappling Hooks, and spent a minute pointing out one of the many problems with the Obama administration. Speaking with Kevin McCullough, host of the American Family Association’s radio program, the former governor was asked why President Obama refuses to call Islamic extremists evil. Huckabee responded:

This administration, they will bend over backwards to do everything possible to accommodate Muslims, but they don’t mind stomping all over Christians, and they do it regularly. This is just the most astonishing reversal of true American tradition that I’ve ever seen.

Huckabee also stated he has no problem giving “Muslims their due,” and allowing them to be American citizens.

What is this “Christian stomping” of which Mike Huckabee speaks? Are there any Christians reading this? Have you been stomped recently? Have atheists, wearing Karl Marx masks, broken into your home at three in the morning, and stolen your Bible? Has your church been razed, just for being a church? The last time you prayed in public, were you hit over the head with a brick, and dragged off to the gulag? Were you recently forced to get gay married? Did a femiNazi drag your grandmother off to have an abortion?

In 2012, Jon Stewart pointed out that right-wing Christians have:

…confused a war on your religion with not always getting everything you want.

And that’s it, in a nutshell. People like Mike Huckabee are upset because they can’t always get their way. Truth is, when it comes to stomping, it’s typically not fundamentalist Christians on the receiving end of a boot. Right-wing Christians are notorious of late for their stomping. Stomping on women, LGBTs, minorities, science, Jesus…well, Actual Jesus, lots of things. Let’s walk through a few examples of right-wing Christian stomping.

The GOP-led House is trying, once again, to redefine rape. Is it real, is it legitimate, do we-a bunch of conservative men-have any clue what rape really is? What’s wrong with making a female rape victim report her attack before we make her wait 72 hours to drive 300 miles for an abortion? What’s wrong with groups of men talking about women’s contraception? After all, who knows more about our lady parts than a bunch of right-wing Christian men? And why is the GOP-led House doing this again? In order to ban abortion after 20 weeks. Because to a right-wing Christian, life begins at conception, and it doesn’t matter how conception occurred. They hate contraception, too, which makes this incredibly confusing. The best way to prevent unwanted pregnancy is contraception, including emergency contraception, but try telling that to a Christian conservative.

Conservative Christians frequently stomp on the LGBT community, sometimes with cake. We’ve all heard the screams, the fear, the weird references by Rick “Don’t Google Me” Santorum. My favorite ex-congresscritter, Michele Bachmann’s former Iowa campaign chair, Tamara Scott, said legalizing gay marriage would lead to people marrying objects. Like the Eiffel Tower. Quick side note: When gay marriage became legal in our state, my husband did not suddenly divorce me to marry the lawn mower, nor am I physically attracted to my Kitchen Aid mixer. Of course, no conversation about the stomping of the LGBT community would be complete without a quote from Mike Huckabee himself:

If we’re determined to change the definition of marriage to accommodate how people feel and what they wish to do because of their mutual consent, then we should immediately release those incarcerated for practicing polygamy or bigamy. And, frankly, let’s make all consensual adult behaviors legal, whether prostitution, assisted suicide, or even drinking 16 ounce sodas in New York City.

Yes, because two consenting adults getting married is exactly the same as assisted suicide and prostitution.

Waging a war on science has been very popular with Christian conservatives over the past twenty years. Climate change, evolution, human biology-all things the right-wing fights on a daily basis. From demanding public schools teach creationism to Jim Inhofe’s insanity about climate change, the right-wing refuses to accept scientific evidence for anything. Inhofe, the chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (let that sink in for a moment), has written an actual book entitled The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future. During a radio interview with Voice of Christian Youth America, Senator Inhofe said this:

Well actually the Genesis 8:22 that I use in there is that “as long as the earth remains there will be springtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, day and night.” My point is, God’s still up there. The arrogance of people to think that we, human beings, would be able to change what He is doing in the climate is to me outrageous.

Voice of Christian Youth America is an uber-right-wing group that does not believe President Obama was born in America, but they do believe in Agenda 21.

Remember Paul Broun? The former congressman from Georgia, who is a physician, called evolution, the Big Bang, and embryology “lies straight from the pit of hell.” Then there’s Rick Perry who told a little kid that he has no idea how old the earth actually is, and evolution “is a theory that’s out there,” with “some gaps in it.” Then he falsely stated all Texas public schools teach both creationism and evolution. Finally, given that Mike Huckabee appeared on an American Family Association radio show, here’s what the AFA’s recently demoted Bryan Fischer had to say about Christianity in America:

The First Amendment was written by the Founders to protect the free exercise of Christianity.

It would seem, rather than conservative Christians being stomped in America, it’s the rest of us being stomped by conservative Christians. Intellectualism is deemed something icky, higher education is looked down upon, science is ignored, secularism is evil, gay marriage equals prostitution and marrying a statue, and Bubba-Ville is better than Bubble-Ville. Rape victims have to prove they’ve been raped. Being LGBT is a choice (not happy that President Obama said that in an interview). Climate change is a hoax because God. Abortion equals the Holocaust.

Christians are attacked…in Egypt, Syria, parts of Asia. But not here. There is no stomping of right-wing Christians. Plenty of stomping by right-wing Christians, though. When will Mike Huckabee address that?

Actually, it has been “Christians” who have been doing the stomping. Are you liberal? *Stomp* Are you Progressive? *Stomp* Gay? *Stomp* Pro-choice? *Stomp* Believe in science? *Stomp* Believe in gun control? *Stomp* Believe in the separation of church and state? *Stomp* I used to go to church because I actually believe Jesus’ teachings but stopped because the current state of the church is the opposite of what Jesus taught. The “Christian” church is full of hate. They are the American Taliban.

Organized religion is BAD for those who believe in Jesus…

More like the root of all our troubles

Perhaps the whole root of our trouble, the human trouble, is that we will sacrifice all the beauty of our lives, will imprison ourselves in totems, taboos, crosses, blood sacrifices, steeples, mosques, races, armies, flags, nations, in order to deny the fact of death, which is the only fact we have.

Do we not also have life? Is life not a fact? It seems James Baldwin has made a somewhat hastily-arrived-at conclusion. Take care not to make the mistakes others have already made, but learn from them instead.

A word that the Christian activist/fundamentalist does not understand, is equality. Their rights don’t take precedence over anyone else’s.

It is not possible to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and be a conservative. The two philosophies are diametrically opposed.

I actually think all those things should be legal… The crime involved in a few of those things (drugs, abuse, etc) are actually a result of the actual act being illegal. If someone wants to have a religious ceremony to show that they love more then once person, and all involved are ok with it… Why do YOU care? If someone wants to have sex for money, and someone else is willing to pay for it, why do you care? If someone wants to drink a damn soda. Why do you care? And if someone is hurting and suffering because of a fatal illness and would like to not suffer anymore, why refuse them? Doctors swear to do no harm, yet isn’t making someone suffer when they ask for you to not make them suffer anymore, doing harm?

    Just some random thoughts…

  • No, not been stomped on, but would very much like to stomp on him.

Such a silly article. Jon Stewart is a liberal puppet. And these so called news articles are pure propaganda from an anti-Christian viewpoint to turn as many as possible away from Christ.
No, and I repeat NO REPUTABLE JOURNALIST would spew such a hatred and bias against any one people group within their own country like the author has here.

    • zivo24

It’s modern day Christianity in America that is turning the most people away from Jesus Christ. Because modern day Christianity in America goes against everything that Jesus Christ lived and died for – peace, love, kindness and fairness. For you to call anyone a “puppet” is a bit hypocritical considering that you can’t seem to think for yourself. Huckabee actually did say these things…..so how is a journalist spewing any hatred or bias????? What you wrote doesn’t even make sense. It’s just mindless rhetoric regurgitation without any regard for the facts.

Obama, unlike other American presidents, was not brought up in American tradition. His father was a Muslim and Obama’s childhood career was in Muslim Indonesia. That’s why he has not openly attacked Islamic terrorism. His foreign policy has been pro-Islamic right from the day he took office. He has been wooing terror state Iran even in the days of Ahmadinejad. In some way or other he wants to empower Iran so that Israel could be subdued. He has appointed Muslim Brotherhood men in key posts. He has allowed ISIS to occupy large swathes of territories in Iraq and Syria without allowing boots on the ground. This is stomping. Genocide of Christians in Mosul and along with these terrorist activities Islamic caliphate is spreading not merely in Muslim Middle East but in Europe (massacre of cartoonists in France and no-zone areas in many European countries). Stomping’s another angle is abetting Muslim terrorists, and Obama has been doing without taking urgent steps to halt the rampaging caliphate terrorists.
