Mike Huckabee’s Latest Anti-Gay Comments Prove How Delusional He’s Become

mike-huckabee-video-screenshotI’ll be honest, I’m absolutely exhausted when it comes to these “debates” over gay rights. Not because I don’t believe gays deserve equal rights, but because the arguments against giving gay Americans the rights they’re owed as per our Constitution have gotten so mind-numbingly stupid.

Somehow many of these religious fanatics have convinced themselves that homosexuals, and all of us who support equal rights for members of the LGBT community, actually give a damn about their religious beliefs.

Let me be clear about this to all these religious fanatics: Nobody cares what any of you believe.

The only thing gay Americans, and supporters of gay rights, want is for these religious zealots to stop trying to force their views on others. If these hyper-religious folks want to think homosexuality is a sin, spend 7 days a week in church and read the Bible every single day – go right ahead, really, nobody cares. The only reason why there appears to be any push against religion is because they keep trying to force their religion on other people

If these people would keep their religion to themselves, then there wouldn’t be any need for a public backlash against anything related to religion. But of course people are going to speak out against religion when millions of people are trying to force their views on others in a direct violation of our Constitution.

This is a point that former Fox News host Mike Huckabee seems too dense to understand. During a recent interview, he tried to claim that gay rights advocates won’t stop until “there are no more churches” and religion is all but dead.

“The left has gotten very good on creating a crisis, something to divide the country, something to create this sense in which we’ve got to go after these conservatives because they are trying to trample over our rights,” Huckabee said.

“It won’t stop until there are no more churches, until there are no more people who are spreading the Gospel,” he added. “And I’m talking now about the unabridged, unapologetic Gospel that is really God’s truth.”

First, here’s a fun fact: Many gay Americans are Christians – and so are many of us who support gay rights. Being a Christian and anti-gay rights are not mutually exclusive. Millions of Americans who are Christians also support gay rights.

What amazes me about the type of ignorance Huckabee displayed here is that if, right now, we gave gay Americans all the rights and legal protections that straight Americans have – nobody would pay any attention to these religious bigots.

As I said, gay people and gay rights supporters really don’t care what these backwoods, knuckle-dragging religious loons think. If they want to believe Jesus rode a dinosaur from Israel to Utah 6,000 years ago – go right ahead. They just need to stop trying to force others to abide by their ignorance.

Yes, it’s really that simple.

The truth is, there’s no “war on religion” from gay rights supporters. The only thing we’re trying to do is what our Constitution clearly states, which is to keep a separation of church and state and keep religion out of our laws.
