While I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on Indiana Governor Mike Pence, what I do know about him isn’t good. He’s a hardcore religious fanatic who’s claimed that smoking doesn’t kill; Disney’s Mulan was liberal propaganda designed to making people believe women were fit for combat; and signed a bill that required aborted fetuses to be buried or cremated. That’s all on top of the fact that he was made nationally famous for passing one of the most anti-LGBT pieces of legislation in the country just over a year ago.
Well, since becoming Donald Trump’s running mate, he’s proved to be nothing more than a required formality, essentially a glorified surrogate. Then again, that’s more or less what I expected following the first joint interview the two men had where Trump repeatedly talked over Pence, answered questions for him and, at one point, even appeared to be giving him permission to answer a particular question.
That being said, it hasn’t stopped Pence from making some rather idiotic statements that seem to imply that he’s either just as much of a pathological liar as Trump is, lacking any and all self-awareness, or he’s absolutely delusional.
For instance, comments he made during an interview with Fox & Friends where he said that Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine are running a campaign based on nothing but insults and that Trump’s “positive” message is resonating with Americans.
No, I’m serious — he actually said this.
“All we get from Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine are insults. But insults are not a plan,” Pence said. “American people are responding to the positive agenda that Donald Trump has to make America great again.”
Some might be thinking the headline of this article was clickbait, but it’s not. I was legitimately speechless when I watched Pence say this.
Sometimes I wonder if Mike Pence has ever watched a single speech Trump has given. Not only has the Republican presidential candidate largely built his campaign on insulting everyone from Mexicans, to Muslims to every political rival from “Little” Marco to “Crooked” Hillary, he has constantly pushed his idea that this country is a “disaster” and won’t survive a Hillary presidency, blatantly preying on irrational fear and paranoid anger.
This is also the same candidate who lashes out and attacks nearly everyone who criticizes him. He’s become infamous for his unhinged Twitter tirades because someone dared to say or write something that hurt his fragile ego.
His entire campaign has been fueled by hate, anger, insults, racism, bigotry and vilifying others to boost himself.
Besides, does Pence think “Make America Great Again” is a positive outlook? That entire slogan is predicated on a negative connotation about what this country currently is — despite reality contradicting Trump’s insistence that this country isn’t great.
At this point, I’m really not sure if Mike Pence is every bit the pathological liar Donald Trump is or he’s so incredibly delusional that he has absolutely no idea who his running mate is.
