More Bad News for Christie: Ex-Port Authority Official Says ‘Evidence Exists’ He Knew About Lane Closure

chris-christie-bridgeI would say this news surprised me, but it didn’t.  Since the news of the “bridge scandal” initially broke, I didn’t believe for a single moment that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had no knowledge about what was going on.

Which is basically what the ex-Port Authority official who oversaw the lane closure, and high school friend of the New Jersey governor, is saying.

In a statement released by his lawyer, David Wildstein claims that the order to close the lanes was “the Christie administration’s order” and “evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference.”

Though some evidence does suggest that this is a veiled threat from Mr. Wildstein to Governor Christie in an attempt to have his legal fees paid for as he goes through the legal fallout of this bridge fiasco.

But of course, Christie continues to deny having any knowledge prior to January 8th that the now infamous lane closures were linked to a scandal.

I’m sorry, but I’m just not buying it.  There were clearly a lot of “Christie people” involved in this, and the evidence we have thus far seems to indicate quite a lot of “chatter” going on between these individuals about this pathetic retaliation against a mayor who refused to endorse Chris Christie’s re-election bid.

It just seems completely unbelievable that someone like Governor Christie, who obviously has a massive ego and seems to be “in control” of everything that goes on within his office, would somehow have absolutely no knowledge that any of this had been going on.

After all, the only person who really would have suffered any kind of bruised ego by not receiving a pointless endorsement is Chris Christie.  And if these people were so loyal to Christie that they decided to “fight” for the governor by staging this juvenile stunt – why would they have risked his political career over something so pointless?

But I can assure everyone one thing – if there’s evidence this ex-official from the Port Authority can produce that links Governor Christie to this scandal, it’s eventually going to come out.

It’s kind of the cliché’ saying, “the cat’s out of the bag.”  He’s claimed there’s evidence that exists linking Christie, and if that’s true, somebody somewhere is going to produce that evidence.

One thing is for certain, Chris Christie’s time as the darling of the GOP was extremely short-lived.  Because I really don’t think he can recover from these accusations by 2016.  Especially if evidence emerges that contradicts the story Christie has been clinging to for the last several weeks.  Forget 2016, he might not even last this full term as governor.

Was this the same Ports Authority official who, in testifying to an investigation about the bridge, announced that he would answer the 5th amendment to any question they asked him ? I smell a deal for testifying under immunity.

It looks like he’s fishing and trying to get a nibble from the prosecutors by letting them know he has evidence…But what he has actually done is set himself up..He is one of those who got a subpoena.. If he has that information on any of the specific items that were requested he is required to present it or be held in contempt. He never should have said anything until the deal was done…

I haven’t paid much attention to this since it broke. Have Fox News and other Conservative outlets been covering this the same way that they covered the IRS-Tea Party issue? I remember quite a bit of noise from them stating that the President had to have known about this, despite absolutely zero evidence that anyone in Obama’s administration was involved. There’s clear evidence that people within Christie’s administration were directly involved in the bridge closure, so you would think that it is much more likely that Christie was involved in that issue than Obama was with the IRS issue. However, I would not be surprised if Fox News and Conservative talk radio simply ignored the bridge closure and brought up Benghazi, the IRS, or whatever else is the flavor of the month instead.

i really think the pres office is not concerned with a bridge closure…come on now

By “pres office”, do you mean “press” as in media or “pres” as in the president? If you mean the media, then why wouldn’t the media be concerned about this? If Christie is involved, then it is a blatant misuse of his power. Right-wing media likes to claim that Obama is abusing his power; are they making the same claims of Christie now that there’s a strong chance that he’s doing the same?

If you meant “pres” as in president, I never said or implied that Obama was involved or is even concerned about the issue. My only mention of Obama was a comparison of the way that he’s treated by the Conservative media against the expected treatment of a Republican.

OH its coming and will be the downfall of this bastard.

He keeps saying he knew nothing about the lane closures meaning he had not heard, seen or read anything about it until the emails were released… Yet he made a joke that he was the one putting up the close the lanes.. How did he know that cones were used and not barricades??.. Yes, the walls are crumbling around him…

I think there’s too many people close to Christie who were either directly involved or knew about the lane closures but his problems extend beyond this bridge now. I kind of gave him the benefit of the doubt at first, but now I’m not so sure and I’m also not so sure it was about endorsements either. In my opinion, the billion dollar development project in Fort Lee and Hoboken have a lot more to do with this than some endorsements.

This is the perfect political storm. Once the scandal broke, it acquired a life of its own. Now that Christie is vulnerable, the intimidation factor has evaporated. Now, all of his bully tactics will float to the surface and allegations will come from all points on the compass.
