If there’s one thing that drives me crazy, it’s hypocritical, fake outrage. Whether it’s from the left, the right, or from individuals discussing a subject that’s not-at-all political, I cannot stand when people who really couldn’t care less about something pretend like they’re “outraged” simply because “it’s the thing to do.” Especially when I’m certain that outrage comes from people who I know are absolute hypocrites.
For instance, the on-going debate concerning NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem.
I’m done with the NFL! I won’t stand for this level of disrespect toward our flag, our country, and the brave men and women who’ve fought and died for the United States of America!
All over the country, videos have surfaced showing people burning their NFL gear (jerseys, hats, shirts, etc..) and some even setting their season ticket packages on fire.
First, I’d like to point out how absolutely idiotic it is to burn something you’ve already paid for. It’s not as if burning an NFL jersey you paid upward of $100 or more for is going to take money away from the league. As for the season ticket holders burning their tickets, you’re stupid for two main reasons:
- Those tickets can be printed again, if not obtained electronically. It’s not as if burning them is really destroying them.
- Most NFL franchises have a waiting list of people who want to purchase season tickets. If you’re not going to keep paying for yours, trust me, someone else will.
Furthermore, one would think that instead of burning this stuff in some childish display of “I’ll show them!,” these folks might donate these items to poor people who otherwise might never be able to afford to attend a football game or who might be in desperate need of clothes. Hell, they could have given them to various charities that could have then auctioned them off to raise money.
Nah, but you all go on throwing your petulant little hissy fits. Show us what “amazing, patriotic Americans” you all are — by acting like fools.
However, for all these people who claim to be “outraged” over players kneeling during the National Anthem, I have a simple question: When it’s played on TV while you’re at home, at a friend’s house, or in a bar — do you stand?
I’m going to guess no, probably not.
You know how I know? Because I live in Texas, a very conservative state, and I’ve been to many bars and gatherings for sporting events where the National Anthem was played prior to the start of a game. Take a guess at how many times I’ve seen someone purposefully stand for it.
Plus, if you all really want to talk about “disrespecting the flag,” you might want to start with Walmart. Typing in “American flag” over at Walmart.com will yield results that include:
- American flag lounge pants.
- American flag running shorts.
- American flag phone cases.
- American flag boxers.
- American flag bikinis.
- American flag flip-flops.
- American flag thong.
- American flag bandana.
Hell, Walmart allows third-party sellers to sell American flag door mats on their website. Yes, that’s an American flag made for people to walk and wipe their feet on.
Though it’s not just Walmart.
Target also sells American flag socks, shorts, and a zip-up onesie pajama suit — for adults.
Here’s an American flag swimming brief from Dick’s Sporting Goods.
In fact, how many millions of people decorate for their Fourth of July celebrations, then once all the festivities are over, proceed to throw all the American flag-themed decorations into the garbage? You know, like American flag napkins that can be used to wipe up spilled food, drinks, baby spit up, or even used as toilet paper if desperate times call for desperate measures. Napkins that are then quickly discarded into the trash.
I’d be doing this article an injustice if I left out Kid Rock, who actually cut a hole in the American flag and wore it as a poncho during the Super Bowl halftime show back in 2004 — eventually throwing it into the crowd. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Kid Rock a Republican who Trump invited to the White House?
Where’s the “outrage” concerning all of those examples, plus many… many others, where our flag is constantly “disrespected” — especially on the Fourth of July?
That’s right, there’s next to none.
So, spare me this fake “outrage” over those who kneel during the National Anthem unless you’re someone who’s protested and boycotted Walmart, and many of these other companies that sell the American flag depicted in ways where it’s used to sit on, walk on, wipe away sweat, worn as part of a piece of cloth up someone’s backside, as a swim suit covering someone’s crotch, or you voted for a man who invited someone to the White House who once cut a hole in it and wore it as a poncho during a halftime show.
Because unless you’ve already expressed disgust at all of that, then you’re nothing more than a hypocrite.
