Long before most Republicans sold out to Donald Trump, Chris Christie proudly became one of this “president’s” lap dogs.
An early critic of the incompetence of Trump, it seemed the moment Christie felt he might be able to kiss his backside enough to score a key position within his administration, he couldn’t hurry fast enough to place his lips firmly on the cheeks of “The Donald.”
Ultimately, Trump just used him as a lackey for a few months, never offering him any position within his administration.
Nevertheless, it seems Christie has still chosen to remain mostly loyal to Trump, even when most people know privately he’s aware, just like the rest of us, that this “president” is unfit to serve.
Well, MSNBC conservative analyst Nicolle Wallace took this a bit further Tuesday, telling Christie that it’s obvious Trump couldn’t care less what he thinks.
After playing several clips of various people on Fox News pushing the idea that the FBI is part of some “coup” against Trump, Wallace asked Christie what he thought about all of this.
“Ooooh, a coup,” Wallace said mockingly. “We have Chris Christie, who will answer the question as to whether or not we are witnessing a coup.”
“No,” Christie answered.
“We’re not?” Wallace asked again.
“No,” Christie answered, again.
Then Wallace said what many of us have been saying for a while now, that Trump’s behavior isn’t that of someone who’s innocent.
“Riddle me this, if you’re innocent of collusion, why would you malign or green light attacks that would have the affect of alienating a special counsel that could exonerate you?” Wallace pondered. “Why doesn’t he call you when he wants to know about Bob Mueller, why does he let those nutjobs on TV malign Bob Mueller, who at the end of the day, very well may exonerate him?”
“Listen, at the end of the day, that doesn’t make any sense to me,” Christie responded.
“Have you told him that?” Wallace asked.
“I’m not going to talk about what I tell to the president,” Christie shot back.
“Donald Trump obviously doesn’t agree with you, he re-upped his attacks on Mueller on Sunday night on the White House lawn, by saying, ‘It’s really sad, it’s really sad, it’s really bad, it’s really sad,’ it sounds like a Dr. Seuss book, and his attacks on the FBI are ongoing,” Wallace replied.
“He doesn’t listen to you or he doesn’t believe you or what is he saying?” she added.
While I wouldn’t say Wallace was being mean, it’s clear she had an agenda to let Christie know that Trump couldn’t care less about him so it’s rather foolish to continue to show loyalty to someone who obviously has no interest in what he has to say.
Though she did get him to admit that all of this nonsense about “witch hunts,” “shadow governments,” and “FBI-led coups” was ridiculous.
I just wish there were more conservatives like Nicolle Wallace out there who refused to sell their souls to one of the biggest political mistakes in American history.
