Even though Barack Obama’s been out of office for well over a year, and Hillary Clinton has never been president, that hasn’t stopped conservatives from blaming them for, well — anything negative they can spin into some sort of ridiculous attack against them.
Case in point, NRA TV host Grant Stinchfield partly blaming Obama for the deaths at Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
“If Barack Obama is writing anything that deals with the Parkland students, it should be an apology,” Stinchfield said. “His liberal no-discipline-for-rule-breakers policy was a contributing factor that enabled the shooter to wreak the havoc that he did — it was Obama’s school discipline policies that prevented faculty members from having students arrested, even for severe and repeated discipline issues.”
For the record, nothing about Obama-era policies relating to how schools handle students they believe could pose a threat would prevent faculty members from being able to contact law enforcement. This is just another desperate attempt by a member of the right-wing to blame Obama for something he had nothing to do with, knowing full well that simply the mention of his name works conservatives up into an irrational frenzy.
After all, these are many of the same people who often act as if Clinton is president, not Trump.
Though it was when Stinchfield mentioned Obama’s praise of Black Lives Matter where the NRA host went completely off the rails.
“NRA members don’t burn down cities and we don’t incite riots against our police!” he raged. “The leaders of Black Lives Matters do!”
Look, I’m not here to say there aren’t some issues with certain aspects of the Black Lives Matter movement. Even though I support the message, I’m well aware that there are those who’ve attempted to hijack the movement for their own agenda. In fact, I’ve criticized them in the past when I’ve seen behavior I felt needed to be called out.
That said, I don’t believe that those rioting, or encouraging riots, are true representatives of BLM or its beliefs.
If Stinchfield wants to claim that those who riot in the name of BLM represent the entire group or what it’s about, then it’s hypocritical of him to object to people blaming all gun owners for the actions of mass murderers and other psychopaths who kill using firearms.
But this just goes to show you that there’s clearly a racist layer to the NRA that, of course, it denies exists. The same people who believe it’s okay for mentally unhinged clowns to march down civilized streets with AK-47s strapped to their backs “in the name of the Second Amendment” — who’d probably spiral into an all-out panic attack if 100 African Americans or Muslim Americans marched through their neighborhoods carrying those very same weapons.
It’s like many have said before, not all Republicans are racists, but it certainly seems that most racists, or those who make clearly racist comments, happen to be Republicans.
