Obama Meets With Pope, Fox News Fans Freak Out With Hate

president-obama-meets-pope-francisUnfortunately, a big part of my job entails stomaching the “information” Fox News produces.  And while I’ve become much more numb to it the longer I do this, some days the level of ignorance from Fox News and their supporters still shocks me.

I found a perfect example of this in the comments section of the Fox News article concerning the meeting between President Obama and Pope Francis.  You know, let me just list a few of the best.  Though you can check them out here if you’d like.

  • It’s so good to see the leader of the Catholic community getting along with the leader of the Islamic fundamentalist community.
  • They found common ground …  “their shared commitment to fighting poverty and income inequality.”  … both of them believe that producers should provide as much for takers as the producers provide for themselves.   A recipe for the destruction of human initiative.
  • UNBELIEVABLE!!   The President will even lie to the Pope!!  He admires him?   I doubt it!!    Forcing taxpayers to pay Federal taxes that are being used for abortions and morning after pills and contraceptives?   Trampling Christian values at every turn?   No prayer in schools or government buildings?
  • Pope needs to lose some weight. Christ had the physique of an fine athlete. Pope needs to represent Christ by losing half his body weight.
  • Another photo op fpr :Lurch and Oblama.  There is a very warm place with no virgins awaiting them upon their departure from this earth.
  • These two have one thing in mind:  Replacing God with themselves, and making you worship them.  Both would do anything to be your God.
  • Pope you must call on the 3rd and final Crusades against Islam! The entire world must end Islam in it’s entirety!
  • Obama hates christians and especially catholics.
  • “A great Admirerer of the Pontiff”  There`s a lie! There is nothing Great about Obama.  I bet Obama never heard of him til he became the Pope. Besides Obama has nothing nice to say about the Popes` Boss. He`s more into Allah as I can tell.

I’ll end it there.  I could have honestly spent hours listing the nonsense I saw these people spew.  The absolute ignorance of literally 98% of the people who were commenting on this article was astounding.

But there it is folks, the “intelligence” of your average conservative Fox News supporter.

Gee! Christians are assholes. Who knew?

    • Fruttel1

LOL, don’t believe that, once you’ve seen óne Christian, you know them all, Freethinker. A lot ofus are like yóu claim to be: free thinkers. 🙂

      • Darrell Waterman

I’ve been around people who call themselves Christians all my life. My father was a minister. The older I get the fewer real ones there seem to be. Even supposedly educated friends regurgitate the FAUX misinformation and thin the POTUS is a Muslim and a Communist and was probably born in Kenya. Some days I can hardly stand to be in the same room with them.

    • BoiseBoy

Hi freethinker – have a look at The Christian Left on Facebook. It’s a breath of fresh air. They welcome atheists, agnostics, jews, muslims, wicca, you name it. Great articles.

      • freethinker666

Actually I have been following it for quite some time. The’re an anomaly, I come from a large Italian Catholic family, live in an area that is predominantly christian, mostly Baptist, and fundys, and I stand by my opinion, most christians are assholes. BTW, I have met two christians in my lifetime, one was an atheist, and the other was Jewish.

      • Cara_L_M

I’m sorry your experience with Christians has been with mostly assholes, but looping us all into that category isn’t a fair assessment (not that fairness runs rampant on these message boards, but hey). A lot of us think the ones with big voices (the crazy right) are giving those of us with smaller voices bad names. Unfortunately, hypocrisy runs rampant, but that’s the same with any religion, really. I think Christianity is just more vocal about its own hypocrisy. There are a lot of us who do try to live the way BoiseBoy suggests tho. 😉

      • freethinker666

When one prominent religious leader, be they Jews, Christians or Muslims, publicly condemns Hobby Lobby, and the rest of their ilk, then I might rethink my position, until then I stand by my opinion.

      • Joe Ward

i have never met a true “good christian” based on their definition of the term. in fact, i don’t believe such a person could exist.

      • RuralStupidity

        HUGE fan of theirs.

    • sleepswithcats

Freethinker, you have it backwards. Assholes aren’t Christians, no matter what they call themselves.

      • Richard

        but they ARE assholes.

  • Double Dukes

Those commenters are pretty awful people.

    • crabjack

The comments are from some pretty awful people.

  • Aanna1123

Ha ha ha ha ~ I just love how they are spreading the word of love and Jesus Christ! And It’s great that they consider themselves a God so they can judge another. Hypocrites every one and the fools think they have one foot into heaven!

    • m hartmann

They do have one foot in heaven – they put their foot in the opening as the gate was slammed in their face. That’s okay though, they know how to deal with gate crashers. Looking at you Hitler.

  • MadameDelphi

Why not just rebrand the GOP as the party of hate? Seriously, hire an ad company & work on that campaign. It’s who they really are. Hate based.

    • Aloanstar

They don’t need to hire anyone…they are doing it on their own already.

      • MadameDelphi

I mean the Dems should do the rebranding like the GOP brands the Dems as “socialist commie takers”. We should be even more dismissive of the GOP as the “Haters”. I really don’t know Dems who hate like the GOP constituents hate. I know it comes out of ignorance & low IQ.

      • Laurie

But we really don’t want to sink to that level, do we?

      • kickapoogirl

Oh YES we do. It’s time we started playing this game for real. Enough Mr. & Ms. Nice Guy. We’re fed up with the hatred and garbage spewed by the GOPTP.

      • MadameDelphi

It’s not sinking. It is stating a fact. Most US citizens need to be guided, that’s what they know & we ignore. Do you want them in charge? Watch Edward Bernays info on “Century of the Self”. The right wing practice those techniques & we just let it happen.

      • mrmiller

You want to win? This is a bar fight not a picnic.

      • Dooby Scooby

When somebody calls me socialist commie, I thank them for the compliment.

    • Gary Menten

The party of complete idiocy is more appropriate, I think. I mean, they aren’t even smart enough to know why they hate the President or the Pope.

  • William Knowles

I am so glad my tax payer dollars are supporting these fine church going, loving, WWJD assholes.

  • Pipercat

Ah the internet! Where even an idiot can have their voice heard around the world….

  • Asher Frost

I think the one that makes me laugh the most is the one bashing the pope for not having the physique of an athlete. That was a total WTF moment. Like the other Popes were fresh off the catwalk?

    • Cherie Capri

Not only that, how does he know what Jesus’s physique was? There are no actual photos of him and he died when he was 33 years old. Could we see a picture of the pope at 33 please. Yes I agree, as stupid as the other comments were, this was the best comic absurdity.

      • MadameDelphi

They must be thinking of Jeffrey Hunter, hottest Jesus ever.

      • Darrell Waterman

Hot yes. Realistic with blue eyes and fair skin – NOT.

      • Nick Wride

But that’s how they want the Jesus of their mythology portrayed.

      • Gary Menten

Everyone knows Jesus looked pretty much like a 14thC Northern Italian male, right?

      • Jacob L Crislip

Dudes are straight up gay for Jesus, there’s no doubt.

      • Mike Smar

Funny thing is, their heads would explode if they ever realized that Jesus, if he did exist, would have been a dark-skinned JEW.

    • Cheryl Wigder-Hunt

Tsk tsk on that fool who wrote that…hell bound! His god read that…hahahaha

  • Ed Morgano

I read through some of the comments on that Fox page and couldn’t find enough intelligence to respond to.

    • Ed Morgano

Update. I just went back again and the comments are gone. Maybe Faux news was ashamed of their comments and removed them. HaHa

      • lindylou

Where is their comment page. I have tried over and over to get on some of these bottom-feeder pages and my comments are rejected. So much for the “rights'” advocacy of free speech.

      • Ed Morgano

Usually at the bottom of their article, but I think it’s managed closely so that only stupid comments that agree with Faux news are left.

  • Bert Dodson

Gandhi said this ” I like this Christ, the Christians not so much”

  • TGD

Not every Christian thinks this way. Most of us are tolerant, compassionate, merciful, non-judgemental, loving and kind. Unfortunately, the bigots appear to have a voice and the real Christians don’t.

    • TLFV

Then the real Christians need to start making themselves heard, because these crazies are changing the world’s perception of what it means to be a Christian.

      • Laura Bartlett

Yeah, I keep hearing about these loving Christians and except for the Christian Left and John Shore’s Unfundimentalist Christians, I only hear them defending themselves not actually calling out the actual cristofascists and doing serious promoting of that often rare Christian compassion. Saying I love you, but you’re an abomination is not love.

    • RuralStupidity

While I agree with your sentiment, and appreciate it, most are not, and that’s the sad truth.

    • Darrell Waterman

I wish I really believed that, but I see so much evidence and much of it coming from people I went to Bible School with that leads me to believe otherwise. Their sanctimonious attitudes make me hope there isn’t a heaven because I certainly don’t want to spend eternity with them.

      • lindylou

Actually, Darrell, you wouldn’t. Many of them are headed to the “hot” place or a nameless void.

    • deckbose

You may well be, but I don’t know if you can speak for “most of us” — there is a huge contingent of prejudiced and hateful Chrisitians out there, and and I can only hope they are a mouthy minority.

    • mrmiller

And yet you don’t speak out.

  • Sandy Greer

The Right isn’t too sure about this new Pope:

He leaves the judging of others up to God, and wants to help the poor.

^^^Yep; this Pope is different, and they’re not sure whose ‘side’ he’s on.

But I like him, and I’m not even Catholic. 😉

  • BoiseBoy

It’s fun to visit the Fox comments just to Fox Bait. Try it
sometime! You do read lots of idiotic racist comments, so be prepared. Also, it seems like you can only post comments on articles which can be used to target Obama, and not, for example, articles about toxic waste spills.

    • lindylou

Toxic Waste Spill … another name for FOX.

  • republic84

Lol. I tend to either read conservative articles or watch Faux News when I’m bored or need cheered up. They are so misguided and idiotic Its all you need for a little chuckle.

  • Michael Perdue

You attack people who comment on articles? It doesn’t matter what the article says there will be people who make off-handed commentary to mock, make fun, or insult. If you want to write an opinion piece then write a position supporting your views and why the writer has it wrong. I’m sure we could find a Liberal/Progressive piece against the Republican party and find just as many comments mocking, making fun, or insulting the topic/people.

    • VirginiaPatriot

yeah just minus the racist, misogynistic, homophobic and putin loving parts

  • chrisfrommactown

Actually the hate and vitriol on Fox News comments is pretty mild compared to what you see coming from most lefty commenters. Remove the plank from your own eye and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your neighbors eye.

    • VirginiaPatriot

      jam it commie!

    • hermanprovi

chrisfrommactown, when YOU remove the “plank” from your eyes, perhaps you will see truth!

    • Nick Wride

What a load of bullshit, Chris.

  • Shadow Laviolette

  • lindylou

It can be sort inspirational to see the republicans tear themselves apart. They need to keep it up as with all the Koch Cash they are making inroads.

  • Jendayi Dillard

LOL hipster catholic was a fan of the pope before the pope was the pope.

  • hermanprovi

Wow! Two people that are more “Christlike” than most ‘christians’ and faux news airheads are experiencing a blow to their distorted versions of what the ‘MAN’ Jesus, was all about! Let us give thanks that, people like Mr. Obama and this new and refreshing Pope, are with us! All those that remarked negatively about the two, will probably attend church on Sunday, but may feel a little out of place!

    • RuralStupidity

Out of place? where do you think they learn this stuff?

    • Sandy Greer

They won’t feel out of place. The self-righteous never seem to recognize themselves.

  • Eddie Krebbs

Yesterday, the instant I saw that President Obama was going to meet with Pope Francis, my reaction was “There goes the love affair between the American people and Pope Francis.”

Your first quoted comment (about head of Islam meeting with head of Catholicism) showed how anti-Catholic sentiment is also just beneath the surface.

    • deckbose

It really is that simple. For the mindless haters who watch Fox News, all it takes is a congenial meeting with Barack Obama (aka the Great Satan) to ruin the standing of any individual in the world. This results in attitudes as hypocritical as applauding Vladimir Putin for being decisive and condemning the Pope for trampling Christian values. It’s a parallel, bizarro world for the Fox-trained idiots among us.

  • RuralStupidity

I don’t want to debate the existence of God or the validity of Jesus as the Son of God. What I will say is Jesus teachings were spot on. It’s a shame that most Christians don’t seem to have the capacity to follow them.

    • Robert Johnston

Or have the desire, for that matter.

    • James kinsey

Yes. Like Jesus says in Luke 19.27 ” But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.” That Jesus. What a kidder.

  • Polly Sigh Progressive

I went to the link to be even more incensed by the RWNJs, but the article has zero comments. Is it possible that they were too far out there, even for Fox? Unlikely.

    • Sandy Greer

I saw comments: 641 comments and 153 people listening in.

  • wvawmn

And FOX was talking about the Noah movie and acting like they were Christians…..flaunting being of faith. You would have thought that you were listening to a Christian TV channel. How can they be Christians and spread rumors knowing that they are false or will cause others to believe false information? Do they realize spreading rumors is the same as lying? I really don’t want someone talking Christianity out one side of their mouth and then spreading misinformation out the other side. Lying is lying! It is like some Southern Baptists that I have encountered……they believe that even though they sin…..the are not sinning because they are “saved”. Is this the same concept that these guys have? It is wrong and for any to cohort them it is wrong still.

    • dljen

FOX fought in court to be able to publish misinformation…and won the case, I might add.

  • Sandyclaws

My inner (medieval) historian is cringing over the reference to the Crusades. The rest is the usual straight-up “Christian” love and respect for fellow humans.

    • Sandy Greer

You don’t expect them to actually know how many Crusades there were, do you? 😉

Why would they let ‘facts’ get in the way of a good rant?

  • Dot

I used to teach Spanish, and Spanish culture is totally entwined with the Catholic church. I had two students who insisted that Catholics weren’t Christians. I told them that 600 years ago if you were a Christian, you were a Catholic and there were no Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans, etc. I half expected their parents to come and yell at me, but it didn’t happen.

  • Lou Bellanca

    Grow up please Fox wingnuts!

  • Gordo2772

Products of the American UN-education system. Just the way the Koch suckers like them.

  • karen_d

I would be surprised to read anything intelligent coming from the viewers of Fox News.

    • Greg Sullivan

      Pot, meet kettle.

Shall I quote Pelosi, Feinstein and a few other Democratic political leaders that have said some ridiculous comments. The fact that they still have people voting for them even after the blatant lies says a whole lot about the intelligence of that side as well.

  • kelaine

This is why I don’t subscribe to any specific religion. I don’t believe in an afterlife where people are rewarded for mass hate and wishing this much ill (And perhaps commiting crimes against – since we don’t know if these people are trolls, just feeding into the power of semi anonymity, feeling brave in the fold of their equally innane peergroup, or people who act on their comments) on people who are living a life that is different from theirs. The one thing I’m grateful from my own Christian childhood is that the first lesson they taught me was that it was -not my place to pass judgement on other people.-

  • Nick Wride

More insanity from the WingNutter crowd. No surprises here.

  • strayaway

The Vatican statement after the meeting said the President’s discussions with Pope Francis FOCUSED “ON questions of particular relevance for the [Catholic] Church in [the United States], such as the exercise of the rights to religious freedom, life and conscientious objection”

    Just to emphasize:
    1) life,
    2) rights to religious freedom, and
    3) conscientious objections

“We actually didn’t talk a whole lot about social schisms in my conversations with His Holiness,” “In fact, that really WAS NOT A TOPIC of conversation.” -President Obama after the conference.

  • Julie Haller

Going to be a whole lot of surprised people in hell!! how many stones did you throw today????

  • Gary Menten

Whenever you think that Fox has finally sunk to the bottom, they find a way of sinking just a bit lower.

  • Greg Sullivan

LOL. Its funny you guy talk about the right as haters, yet I read nothing but insults from you guys. Damn you guys are a tolerant bunch, so long as they agree with you.

Shall I post up some doozie comments from the left?

How about the 4 democrats that have been arrested in the past week?

Lets not worry about those guys, right? I say you need to fix the morons you voted in office before you worry about what some clown behind a computer thinks.. I give you guys credit though. No one can turn a story that’s based on “comments” faster than you guys can to make it seem like the world is ending.

  • Rich_Olszewski

Fox News Christians hate the Pope only a little bit less than they hate the President. Catholics aren’t Christians, don’t you know, and Obama is a Muslim terrorist.
