PC Police Out Of Control In Possibly The Most Absurd Story I’ve Ever Come Across

stevenson-college-intergalactic-nightI pride myself on being someone on the left who’s not afraid to call out those on “my side” whenever they’re being completely and utterly idiotic – especially when it comes to the often ludicrous, overly sensitive politically correct wing that seems determined to bitch and whine about damn near anything.

Take for instance a story that Aurelius at The Pundit Press exposed showing possibly the most absurd example of political correctness run amok I’ve ever witnessed.

You see, Stevenson College (which is part of the University of California, Santa Cruz) had to apologize for making the “egregious” move of – wait for itserving Mexican food during “intergalactic night.”

Apparently, some found it “highly offensive” that the university would serve Mexican food on “intergalactic night,” as they felt this was a slap in the face to undocumented immigrants who are often referred to as “illegal aliens.”

Are you freaking kidding me? Who in the hell even makes that kind of connection? What kind of whiny, looking-to-be-fake-outraged-at-any-damn-thing-they-can-find people are these clowns?

What sort of miserable existence does someone have to live in where they’re so ultra-sensitive and uptight that they would go to “intergalactic night,” see Mexican food, then storm off in protest because they found it to be offensive and insensitive?

The fact that the university apologized for this ticks me off even more:

“We would never want to make a connection between individuals of Latino heritage or undocumented students and “aliens” and I am so sorry that our College Night appeared to do exactly that.”

What the university should really be apologizing for is the fact that they actually issued an apology to the PC Police who were “offended” by this. The fact that they let these people “win” is what’s offensive, not their choice of food on a particular themed night.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the likely reason why the university didn’t want to make a “connection between individuals of Latino heritage” and serving Mexican food at “intergalactic night” is because no sane or rational person would ever make a “racist” connection between the two.

This is the sort of nonsense I talk about when I say that sometimes I do agree with conservatives; there are times that liberals are far too quick to play the race card. Not that these people make up the majority, but there are more than enough of them out there that need to be called out for crying racism, when nothing even remotely racist occurred. When we’re at a point to where a university is having to apologize following the accusations by some who claimed they were being racist when they dared to serve Mexican food on a night where they were showing science fiction movies – that’s about as absurd as you can possibly get.

But the truth is, when these people pull this kind of outrageous nonsense, it does a horrendous disservice to those in this country who are enduring actual racism. Find something worthwhile to voice outrage about instead of making something out of nothing, because this kind of crap is absolutely embarrassing and downright shameful.

I suppose it would be relevant whether the food came from Chipolte or Pancho’s Mexican Buffet. The latter requires hoisting the Jolly Roger at the end of the meal…

    • lurch394

Ah, so you remember Pancho’s, too? Purveyor of really bad Mexican food in Albuquerque. Still, running up the flag for more sopaipillas was boss.

      • Pipercat

Yeah… Sopaipillas were the only things actually good!

  • Cemetery Girl

So, what does this mean for finger foods at Deaf events? (Personally I find them delish.)

  • GimmeSomeTruth

    Intellectual pareidolia? Or simply stupidity?

    • Pipercat

Too funny! But then again, the notion of a “cosmic burrito” is not that far fetched!!

      • buricco

        Well, there’s Cosmic Brownies…

      • Pipercat

Heard you can smoke those too 😉

Heh, seems like what’s going on in gaming. Except there if you call out the over-bearing PC police, you get called a misogynist and blacklisted. The backlash sane lefties got over #GamerGate moved a lot of would-be progressives right into the conservative/libertarian camp. Made me question “my” own media/politics for the first time ever, so I guess I’m glad.

With that, I invite you to tumblr, where someone actually defended mayonnaise as a gender.

    • Eric Reese

I saw that post. She wasn’t really defending mayonnaise if you read it, she was more defending people who identify as something other than male or female and people misinterpreted it

    • Smash_the_State

Totally the the. Completely absurd to call out people for making death threats, doxing and telling women you hope she gets raped simply because she’s a woman in the gaming industry.

      • Alcheya

lol.. if you believe the hype, yea.. sure. If you actually do your own research, you’ll find how much nonsense that really is.

  • wendy

    Oy Vey!

    It was probably Tex-Mex anyway.
